I live in Zone 6, Indiana. Can I plant a stawberry patch now for next year?
I don't know anything about growing them, but sure love to eat them!

Strawberry patch for next year, can I plant them now?
I don't know of anywhere that would still have the plants now. I understand there are some places where you can get them for fall planting but I've always planted them in early spring. I had thought about replacing one of my older sections this fall if I can find plants. Too dang lazy to try to root runners in pots and keep them watered in our usual summer heat.
If you can find someone who's renovating their strawberry bed and tossing out a lot of plants, AND you're willing to risk that the plants would be sound and disease-free, it would work.
You wouldn't want the old plants but new ones from the runners the old plants sendout in the summer. Strawberry plants are only productive for a few years then need to be replaced by new plants. If the existing bed is healthy some people root runners from the old plants for this purpose.
Ok thanks, I will be looking for some. Found one site on net, hope they have some towards the fall. Yvonne
