Questions about a bathtub pond

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone! I've never been to this forum before today, but now I need some information. I have been given a large old cast iron lawfoot bathtub under the condition that I use it for a water garden. (My neighbors love the fact I garden.)

I never wanted a pond because I'm basically lazy, but I've seen pictures of some old bathtub water gardens on Dave's that were just great. I think I'm up for this.

The questions are: How do you set the thing up? I'm sure I need a pump of some sort, seem to recall a thread where someone showed their clawfoot tub with the pump, but can't find it now. I don't want to put fish in it; I just want to be able to grow some plants. I will need cement or something to put under the feet to keep it from sinking, right? What do you use?

Any comments and pictures would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info, just ask. If I'm asking all the wrong questions, just direct me to the right ones. Thank you all!

This link to a thread posted earlier about bath tub ponds should help you out with yours. I had one but never set it up again when we moved.

McGlory, here is a link to a post where Wallaby1 shows her tub garden. The thread is in Cottage Gardens and called "By Special Request" It was started on Jan. 27, 2007. She gives some information further down in the thread.

I am starting a tub garden also. We put cement pavers under the feet of the tub. DH painted it dark green inside and out. We put landscaping fabric under it and will mulch it and put stones and plants around it.

I am anxious to hear/see how yours does.

Thank you both for the links. shadowgirl, I think that's the link I was originally looking for an couldn't find. I've now added it to my Favorites since we have that feature now.

That is so funny, Joyous! I asked the same question back in February and didn't even remember doing it. Back then I was just curious, I guess. Now I will actually have a tub. I think we're getting it this week.

Thank you both for your help. :-)
