Well, yesterday on my way to bring my daughter to the dentist I HAD to stop over and see what was new at Lowe's.
WAY in the back of all the plants I saw the one and only Variegated (almost snowcapped, very pretty) Lacunosa they had.
I took it down, put it back, took it down, put it back and my daughter was like "mom, just buy it". So I did....$16.77 (with Maine tax).
I kept thinking...hubby is not going to be happy with me but then figured well....if he's not, I will offer it to someone on Dave's.
Went to the dentist....$344.00!!!
Needless to say, on the way home I stopped again at Lowe's to return the plant :(
It was very pretty for the hour that I owned it but have have killed two Lacunosa already (along with Bella). For some reason I can't get those to grow for me but SO enjoy everyone's pictures of them :)
To my amazement, the EA tag actually said Variegated Mini Leaf, Hoya Lacunosa. I was tickled to see that they had correctly named the plant :)
Just wanted to let everyone know that it is out there....even in Maine :)
I was thinking that it may cost....approximately $13.00 to mail or so? Which would give a total of $29.77 for an 8 inch basket full. I know some people can and are willing to spend that for a plant they are looking for.
SOOOOO.....I told hubby I would go and buy the plant and box it for someone if they want it and if it's still there.....first one to let me know via D-Mail.

I ALMOST Had One .... Variegated Lacunosa.....Please read!
Well, off to Lowe's to see if the Var. Lacunosa is still there :) Am also going to check out HD just in case :)
Happy to announce that IF the Lacunosa is still there that it has been adopted by one of our very own Dave's family members and not going to a stranger off the street :)

When I get buyers remorse like that, I reason it out by telling myself this: I am broke anyway, what is another $17.00 going to matter???
If I find one at my local Lowes, I will be happy to send you some cuttings. Lacunosa roots and grows pretty quickly for me. The only one I have killed is the original EA basket.. the plant I have that I made from cuttings I took before the plant died is fine, telling me it was the old EA soil/root rot issue, and not lacunosa itself. Maybe it was the same with you.
Kim....do you mean that lovely silvery speckled/mottled one, or are you talking about true variegation.....white or yellow portions of the leaves?
Bummer you couldn't keep it, either way;(
Well, I'm VERY happy to report that I got out of work early (I was SICK minute by minute thinking that someone might purchase the plant *lol*) so I sat in bumper to bumper traffic getting sicker as I could hear someone picking up the plant I just knew I could....*lol*
BUT I'm VERY HAPPY to report that it was still there!
I would like everyone who wrote to know that I DID stop at Home Depot and Wal-Mart to see if possibly they had received any and not surprisingly their garden centers were HORRID!! I love Lowe's!
I can't seem to keep Lacunosa or Bella for some reason....they truly are the hardest for me. I'm OK with saying those 2 have defeated me *lol*
Here is a picture of the Lacunosa that was waiting for me to pick it up today. So glad it's staying in the Dave's family :)
Kim
oh wow, that IS a correct label!
I know, I was amazed.....not sure if the hoya addicts from Dave's are sending EA e-mails or what but I think they are listening *lol*
The only thing I don't see on the tag is the word variegated but variegation is easy to see visually *lol*
They had a Variegated Lipstick plant right next to this and with the 2 side by side it was easy to see but when they are not side by side it can be quite difficult sometimes. AND they had the lipstick plant labeled correctly. To me their labels look different (updated) which is nice to see :)
Kim
Oh, it *is* that lovely speckled one!
Beautiful.
Technically, that's not 'variegation'....it's often called speckling/mottling.
OOOPS.....Thank you for letting me know Nan. I hope that doesn't make a difference to the adopter *lol*
Kim
Oh, Kim....I strongly doubt it will!!
This is one I (and many others, I know) have been 'coveting'!
Good score and nice of you to pick it up for someone else!
You know what's funny Nan? I get as much of a kick and thrill out of shopping for plants for others as I do for myself. One time Chantell was looking for an African Mask and I had just seen them at HD that day. I put my long coat OVER my nightgown, drove to HD and purchased it for her that night (so that it wouldn't be gone of course *lol*). I just LOVE being in the gardening section even if it's for someone else.
People have been SO KIND to me here and shared so much with me that I can never give back enough but I am trying to as much as I possibly can in any way that I can. I have never felt so close to a group of people in all my life....honestly. It's truly like we're all family and have a common interest....not just with hoyas but with gardening in general :)

I was prowling the local Lowes before my viewing of the Simpsons movie.....and saw two of the speckled lacunosas swinging in big baskets. it would appear to me that EA must have cloned a bunch of 'em. I resisted the urge to buy the basket because there was a greenhouse I wanted to stop by on my way home (never been in the place). I'm glad I did check it out because I found a big fat krimson queen all aflush with pink leaves. why would I buy a regular kq instead of the new lacunosa? since I am staying with friends, I don't have good lighting for a big basket, and every kq I've ever had died on me. I'll just appreciate my plain jane lacunosa for now
...for now
