... how bumble bees sleep? And where they sleep? :) I think this guy was wiped out after a hard day of pollenating!!
Have you ever wondered....
Too cute!! I saw one of those big black carpenter bees curled up around a flower and thought it was strange. When I got closer I realized it was dead. Not sure if it just died of a bee heart attack or perhaps a spider got it but the bee was strong enough to fly away until it landed on another flower?

Cute pics!!!!!!! The bees tickle me when they gather so much pollen that they can't fly and look like they had to much froot loop drink trying to get yet to another flower to gather more.
I'm growing very fond of the bumble bees. I still need to take a picture of them flying around with tons of pollen stuck to them from the evening primrose.
I still don't like the carpenter bees, though. I know they don't sting, they just like to chase you away from their "territory," but they still frighten me every time I start getting chased away. I know, I'm silly. :)
Really cute!
Felicia - Last Fall/Winter when the temps dropped, in late evening or early morning, I discovered bumblebees on my flowers. I thought they had died on the plant because it was just laying there. I flicked one off and he didn't move. About 10 minutes later I was working in that area again and he started moving around. Eventually he flew off! Apparently, they get so cold during low temps they kinda hibernate/tupor right there on the plants. And sometimes the nest isn't big enough to hold all the new bees hatched from the Spring/Summer months, so some just stay outside in the harsh climate with the hopes of survival. I had a thread I started many months ago about this. Though I doubt I can find it now! :-/
That is pretty sad sometimes -- "survival of the fittest." Luckily, it'll be a while before it starts getting colder in the mornings/evenings. There is no doubt in my mind that their nest is overcrowed because I have never seen so many bumble bees in my yard before -- then again, I have MANY more flowers this year. :)
