Genevieve

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I have been anxiously waiting for my Genevieve to bloom as I recently read on another site that she only has deformed flowers. The first two flowers on my plant did not come out quite right, but the next three to bloom are beautiful. There are many more blooms coming and so far they look like they will be good ones. My first two blooms clearly showed signs of deformity before they opened. Look at the cute tendrils.

What a looker!! You must be so thrilled- I just love the doubles and she's fragrant, right?

The deformity is a trait Genevieve has passed down to at least one of my seedlings from Brenda Delph seeds. I have the Genevieve x Olympic Flame cross and have several seedling of this hybrid. Two deformed blossoms so far on an early bloomer, but she has many more buds set on, so I'm hoping for the best.

Thanks for sharing such a lovely brug.

Brenda

BTW, Lexy's first blossom is deformed but the second one appears to be normal- yeah!!

Genevieve does have a fragrance but I'm at a loss to describe it. I've now learned the flower takes on a soft peach color around the third day of opening so I'm back to looking for a pure white double that holds the white. I started 80 some seedlings this year and potted them up in one gallon pots when I took them outside...my second big mistake. I had read people use the one gallon until they know if it is a keeper or not. My plants grew so fast twice a day watering was not sufficient and they always seemed dry and the slightest breeze blew them over. So Saturday I started potting them into 5 gallon pots and have just now finished the task. I have also finished myself. Half of me aches and the other half is numb. My first mistake was starting all of my self pollinated seeds...from now on I will give away lots of seed to people who want them. Maybe l will be blessed and a good white double will develope as I did use a double parent for my seeds. A lot of work for a maybe.

What about Candida Double White? http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/31562/
I could send you a cutting if it's something you'd be interested in.

Tussee, I am having the same problem with 5 gal pots. I thought 5 gal pots were gonna be big enough to see if I have keepers, but I even have a few in tree pots, and one is way over 6' tall... and they are still not blooming! I need to eliminate the ones that are not special so I can have some 5 gal pots for my baby batch of seedlings that are about to outgrow their 1 gal pots..
The problem here is the heat.. buds just dry up and fall off till it cools off.. so it looks like I need to buy even MORE 5 gal pots and MORE potting soil, like it or not. LOL

Felicia, I would very much like to try a cutting of Candida Double White...please let me know postage and I will send it to you. Also, do the cutting when it is convenient, and when I see it, I will know it's here. Lol.

You have a d-mail.

Very pretty. I really like how the second skirt drops down all the way and both skirts have those cute loopy curly tendrils. Sounds like she is a good grower.

Teresa, below is a photo of another three day old bloom showing the peach coloring. I'm afraid the color is not consistent until the final day of the flower's life.

ZZ, I refuse to pot on up from a five gallon for my seedlings. Lol. I spent $120.00 just on Pro-Mix and I cannot recall what my pots cost. That's money I could have wasted on something else. I wish I could help you find another solution for your seedlings...all I can do is tell you where you can buy larger pots. Lol. A. M. Leonard. I ordered mine on a Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. and they arrived Wednesday.

I plant my seedlings in rows in the veggie garden. It's easier to dig up a few keepers than it is to pot up all of them to begin with, repot, and then have to toss most of them at the end of the season. It's too expensive too. I plant them about 15 inches apart.

I buy pots at AM Leonard also and have many larger brugs in three gallon pots. I have to water twice a day, but it's still cheaper than filling twenty gallon pots with expensive ProMix. It's $15.98 for a three cubic foot bag. Not compressed. One bag fills two twenty gallon pots. No more...

Ahhhhhh! A lovely light peach colour! It should be called Cinderella Peach. It's gorgeous!

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow I love it at the end when it turns peach!!!.....LOL I have so many different brugs right now I am going nuts trying to transplant them all that is how many I have. But oh well I do love them I think that they are the best and I would never give them up. But if you want one of them please just ask me which one you are looking for and I would love to send you one for a cutting of this one. You can just D-Mail me if you care to.

Thanks,
James

You have a real Lady there. I love it.

James, I no longer have Genevieve. The last two flushes before winter were terrible...all flowers had deformities, some worse than others, so I put her in the trash. Perhaps her problems were a result of my climate. I was very disappointed in my inability to grow her well.

That is very nice. It looks quite "high society": very prim and proper, and a classic understated elegance...very refined.

White can be so regal.

(boy, was that sappy, or what?), lol...
