Need plumeria ID please

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I bought this plant today from a local nursery for $20. It is over 5ft tall and blooming and the guy told me that it is a plumeria but i've never seen one with leaves like this before.

Any ideas as to what it is???

Thanks
dmichael

not that I know being a newbie and all.. but the leaves looks similar to some of the pictures here just the shape is a bit different. it's hard to see the flower in your photo though..

not to worry, there's a lot of plumeria gurus here... just not me. :)

the flower is snow white with just that little tiny yellow dot in the center. It doesnt have as intense of a fragrance as most plumies either but there is a slight scent to it.

btw, I just noticed that you have the same b-day as me.. hope you had a great b-day.. I did.. :)

Spent my b-day in the hospital while my mom was having radiation implants. Not exactly the way I had planned to spend the day but dr's orders are dr's orders and that's when he wanted it done.

Baton Rouge, LA

It looks like a Pudica (Bridal Bouquette). It has sort of fiddle shaped leaves. It is a good one to have. I am sure you will enjoy if. It has a long flowering period.

I would say you got a good deal if the plant is already five feet tall.

My plant is multitrunked from the base. More like a bush as oppsed to the standard treet ype plumie.

I'll try and get a pic of the entire plant and post here.

diehrd, I bought it from True Blue Nursery in Pawleys Island,S.C.

They are a very upscale highend nursery that cater to the rich who live in that area. I'm not one of them but do buy from there at times.

They get stuff like this in all the time only problem is when they do it's usually just a very few and this is the only one of this type of plant that they had and I snatched it up just as soon as I heard it was only $20. They are offering large specimen plumies this year for the first time (no names) for $69

It is a Plumeria pudica. It is classified as a different species because of the leaves. The flowers are said to have no scent: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/93637/ Here is one with Luc of Florida Colors Nursery in front of it. It is a great bloomer.

oh dadgum it! its like that here near hilton head too, but i found a graet nursery specalizing in palms that is pretty cheap compared to places like that. they have exotic things too that are hardy around here that arent too common like cassia and papyrus and queen palms. if yours gets big i would absolutely LOVE to trade for some cuttings or a cutting.whatever is available!

Clare, thanks for the positive ID. I'll get a name tag on it tomorrow.

Nice purchase, Sarge! I'm glad to see the chains offering them too.

Yesterday in the middle of the day when its good and hot you can smell a slight fragrence. I have one and while shopping in walmart I pass the discounted plants and there were 2 couldn't leave them there. Had a few blooms and there still blooming nice plants seem to bloom all summer

Nice find dmichael, I've been to True Blue and could never get anyone to wait on me so I crossed them off my list. Maybe I'll have to give them another chance.

Plants from Walmart are coming from Homestead Fl maybe they are Luc's

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Interesting! You could be right, Dana, that Luc may be the supplier.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Daylily growers cull their seedlings and sell them off inexpensively; perhaps Luc is thinning his plummies. Although, there are so many nurseries in Homestead it boggles the mind; mile after mile of plants in every direction. He is probably not the only one growing plummies.
