hey you guys, can anyone ID this perdy thing,,, the sweet lady that sent it to me thought it was a "lavender lace, tropical" but i dont think so,,,
looks kinda like a "colorado, hardy"... any suggestions, would be deeply appreciated ;0)
waterlily ID
The color looks at bit intense to be colorado to me, but your cooler temps could make the difference.
yeah and the shape of the pletals are different than the colorado...its not too cool here, 100+ but not HOT like AZ... ;0) thank you for the input
It is very pretty though!
thank you,,, do you think its hardy? or tropical? i just bought some tropical water lilies in the coop, so have no "dealings" with them, YET.. ;0)
The one in the pic is definitely a hardy. In your zone you will have to "overwinter" any tropicals.
yeah, i over wintered the one in the pic, cause i thought it was a tropical.. it survived, thankfully,,, ;0)
LOL
Perry's Orange Sunset, mebbe
Regards, andy
hey andy,, your GOOD.. that looks like it!
thank you sooooo much!
LeeAnn
Could also be Florida Sunset , which can be very orange in the right conditions
Need accurate lilypad photo's, top and bottom and a petal count to be reasonably sure...
Regards, andy
well,, i went out to the pond this morning, and the pedals are not as round with the older flower(2days old looks different) ill get a pic and post.. looks more like the colorado,,,,, but not for sure,,,
ill look up the florida sunset, and get to counting the petals, etc.... thank you again for all you guys help!
Don't use victoria-adventure as any kind of guide for hardies. Quite a few errors, poor calibre photographs, innaccurate colour representations.
Regards, andy
I think, but am not absolutely positive, that the leaves of hardy water lilies all have smooth edges, while the leaves of tropical lilies have seratted, or scalloped edges. In your pic I think see both kinds of leaves. Do you know which leaf type belongs to your flower?
yes,, the leaf in the pic is of a new tropical, not the bloom in the pic, im sure of that,,, its a hardy one.... but just unsure of the ID,,, leaning more to the perrys orange sunset...
;0)

If you're looking on p.53 at Plate #213 in "Waterlilies and Lotuses" by Perry D. Slocum I have to agree with you.
To be sure you would have to eliminate varieties like Florida Sunset, Cynthia Ann, and Thomas O'brien which can be quite orangey
Regards, andy
Zowie adavisus! Lots of shots there! What do you think it is?
Well, if the lilypad underside is more or less plain mid crimson with pale green colour to the veining and very little hair to the stem it may be the one, if it is a mid crimson with heavy mottling of dark crimson with definitely hairy stems, it is likely to be t'other
That defined, then a petal count comparison of known Perry's Orange Sunset and Florida Sunset might be getting rather close to a match
Just to be on the safe side, all the other orangey peachy varieties could be double checked for a match...
As it has 34 petals (?) It isn't Colorado which is likely to have 28 petals

Here's a good link for some possible comparisons:
http://www.victoria-adventure.org/waterlilies/waterlilies_galleries_main.html
Whatever it is .... it's very lovely! :-)
ok, i counted roughly 32 or so petals on the above pic,,, so that rules out colorado,,,
florida sunset looks kinda yellow/white in the pic at:
www.victoria-adventure.org/waterlilies/hardy_galleries/florida_sunset.html
??
It does look an awful lot like 'Perry's Orange Sunset'

yes,, i think so,,,
thank you guys sooooo much for your help in this ID,,, i couldnt have done it without you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LeeAnn
I just loved that colour!
Hi Leann, hee hee,I am glad you found the name :)
;0) no worries, i love the color!!! its gorgeous!
Just an after thought on the subject of identifying water lilies, don't take a source such as Victoria Adventure too serious.
Starting with the first page of hardy waterlilies, take an example such as Aurora, there are blooms shown with two different petal counts. Two different varieties...
Who knows how many folk have been sold Chrysantha, misidentified as Aurora...

congrat's on the lily! they are pretty hardy, eh?
Hee, hee, aren't you afraid? I could not find the link that had the large plastic gator head. So I ran to the dollar store and bought not just one, but 3 of the blow up gators! I think I even saw the new resident muskrat scoffing as it swam by, LOLOh, the ducks, no they are fake too :) But we have had lots of ducks and geese fly in to take a peek at said"gator"
LMAO,,, good way of drawing in wildlife....LOL wish i had thought of that one! ;0)
Hey, a few days ago, I looked in the pond and saw a little, pondlily bloomin! I looked at the tag and it said, well, I forgot, but it was a yellow one, the size of a 50 cent piece! I went back a few days later to take a picture, but it was all done blooming :( It was pretty tho :) yellow sunburst??...AHHHH, now I remember, Lemon Mist! HM, sure seemed like a small one to me? I am going back tomorrow to if it happens to have another bloom, I am going to get a picture! Here is a lil hider!
