I have a noid hedychium type ginger that has curled leafs. Leafs are not particularly wide to begin with, but they are definitely curled. What is the problem? How to treat? Is it fatal? As some of you might now, Texas has had more than its share of rain, so I'm wondering if this is the cause
It has not affected my other hedychiums or curcuma or kaempferia, etc., etc.
your help will be appreciated. My plant is a little over 1 year old and has not bloomed in my garden yet. It is a nice green color, but very curled, almost looks like drinking straws.
Is leaf curl fatal?
Vossner, I think, although I am not positive, that it may be due to the wet soil that the roots are in. It sounds like the roots may be in stress from not getting enough oxygen. The leaves curl from not enough water, and it sounds like they are also doing it from excessive water. Hedyichiums can handle some wet soil-but would you say, due to the rains that you have been having, that they are practically sitting in water?
thanks tigerlily. they were def. swimming, but we've gotten a break and the water has drained for the most part. I also see that the leaves are unfurling. I'm glad. while this is a noid, i bought it because it is supposed to be a short ginger, and not a house-eating monster, lol. I would hate to lose it.
thanks for your help.
