My surprises for today...

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I wanted to share with you some of the surprises I came home to today.

First, not to trump Gail and her bad experience with UPS, I received a little package in the mail today too (by post office). I purchased two small plants of episcia 'Unpredictable Valley' via eBay. Small box arrived... no outside damage. Well packed inside... good use of newspaper, and each plant was packed by the cup-on-cup method. First plant came out looking like it was just packed... no problems whatsoever.

A photo of the first plant...

I love Unpredicable Valley..........it has to grow under glass..........so variegated.........nice plant..........I like the cup to cup method of shipping.........all of mine today had the tops squashed.......and had to remove all those leaves........

Do you grow all your episcias in bowls?????????? in the house???????

Second plant... looked like it went through WWIII! Completely uprooted, upside down in cups, every mature leaf broken off! Poor little thing!!! I couldn't believe the difference, coming out of the same box!

Well. she has gone into the "incubator" for some TLC! I took all the broken leaves off, and repotted it, and gave it my cup-on-cup method of incubation. She'll be OK... with a little time.

Here's her photo...

Gail... yes... bowls, terrariums, pots... whatever I feel like putting that particular variety in. I am planning on doing a large mixed bowl with nine different varieties in it, as soon as all the babies root up.

Remember the episcias I got in trade from critter at the plant swap? 'Blue Nile' really took off! This is the photo from June 10th...

And this lovely little girl is 'KD's Glittermagic'. I had pinned two of the stolons over to root in the pot with her. And she gave me a bloom too!

This is cute..........I have ordered Blue Nile so many times and different companies never have it.........already forgotten about it now.............I got one about a month ago called 'Limeade'............prettiest color I have ever seen.........
Now, that would make me mad to get an episcia that doesn't have anything but 2 leaves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we can trade better than the vendors can sell.............and grow good plants.........seriously..........DGers are good!!!!!!!!!

Mine just got through blooming.......meaning all the episcias bloomed at once?????

Gail... this 'Kee-wee' has been in the same clay pot for almost a year and a half now. It sits in an east window and gets about four hours of direct morning sun. It's been blooming for about 3-4 weeks.

I love episcias! **sigh**

OK>...........east window here we come tomorrow...........

VAWildRose your Episcias are stunning! I am really kicking myself now for getting rid of mine.I had mine under growlights all the time not even thinking they could survive without them.Live and learn I guess and I have sure learned alot tonight.I think I will give them another try.
