Tecoma stans orange jubilee
I've read:
Orange Jubilee -- An added advantage is that it produces very few, if any, seed pods!
I guess that's an advantage for some, but I'd like to find seed too. I've purchased a plant in the past from Kartuz in California. I know that doesn't help you. Sorry.
I have this plant and have to say that I am extremely disappointed. Not only does it not produce seed pods....LOL....it produces very few blooms. UGH! I had the yellow tecoma stans a couple years ago and was very pleased, but not with this one. And the blooms are so tiny compared to the yellow.
Hmmm... mine bloomed really well in pot last year. I cut it back hard and stuck it in the ground this year around late winter and it immediately came back with a short burst of blooms. I also got plenty of seed pods later in the summer last year. Brinda, how long have you had yours? Mine didn't bloom much at all the very first year.
Save this thread and dmail me later in the summer. If I have seeds, I'll be happy to share them.
Carter, I've only had this one for a couple of months. It is still in the pot that it came in. But it's a pretty big (3 X 3 feet. at least) and healthy plant. When I got it, it probably had 3 or 4 tiny little orange blooms on it. My thinking was that I loved the yellow so much.....so let's just get the orange too! LOL It is supposed to be hardy to zone 7 but I think I'm going to leave it in a pot and bring it in, just to be safe. Then I may put it in the ground next spring.
My orange bloomed very well. Wish now that I had kept it.
Brinda, I read that they don't bloom well their first year, and mine was like that. I don't expect great blooms this year since it was disturbed again, but it's already done ok.
my experience was same as Carter's. But I also wanted to add that I've heard seeds dont' stay fresh long and need to be planted asap after removing pods. I planted some to see what would happen and zilch, zero, nada, nyet.
By the way... I was just checking mine out (it's in the front yard, which I rarely see for close inspection - it's pretty self-sufficient, so I spend 99% of my time in the back) and it's got seed pods from my earlier spring flush. I don't do anything with them, so when they ripen, I'd be happy to share them.
I think the Tecoma orange is listed as a Tecomaria....so you may have better luck finding one under that title(?) Worth a try I guess....
No, Tecomaria is a different plant, they are closely related but it's not the same thing as the orange Tecoma.
Here's Tecomaria capensis: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1758/
And here's Orange Jubilee: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/60979/
Thanks for the info ecrane3! I have the Tecomaria (cape honeysuckle) in abundance.....
We had that Cape Honeysuckle take over our backyard. We dug and dug and pulled and cut for months and finally had to hire a guy with a bobcat or bulldozer ( some type of machine) to dig it out ..... VERY invasive here in Florida. It had spread all over our yard from a one gallon pot I had purchased at Wal-Mart years ago ... it grew up into the trees, along the fence, and ended up spreading about 6' out into the yard ... it was a jungle! Very pretty, but Wow, I was so stunned at how it took over. Gardeners in the south should beware when planting this in their garden!
Love the Tecoma 'Orange Jubilee'. Another DG'er friend gave me one of the yellow and one of the orange, but the orange one did not survive. Beautiful plants!
Is there a pink Tecoma?
I don't think so, but there are some pinkish Tecomarias. I bought one once, 'Hammer's Rose', but it was more of a coral color, not a true pink. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/114741/
The only tecomas I know of are yellow or orange.
Thank you ecrane! I'll look into that....
I have yellow flowers(bush) tha t look very similar to what you are talking about. I'll try to get a picture, and if someone wants the seed pods (which are long and in abundance) you are more than welcome to them (if they are what you need)
:)
Of course I have the Cape Honeysuckle Orange, but as plantladylin states, you will need space. It makes a huge cluster, but also quite beautiful when full of blooms.
