Planting seeds as a test??

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

I am going to do a "test" to see how this works? I will plant half a pack of seeds in the wrong dates according to the moon phases, then plant the second half in the correct timing. Then see how well both areas do? I have some zinna seeds ready. Just need to figure out when the time is correct. Anyone want to join me in this? We could post photos as the plants develop. It would be fun to see how many times those planted the right dates did better?

Hmmmm - tonight we are
Current Phase:
Waning Crescent
Moonrise: 1:24 AM
Moonset: 5:10 PM
New: 7/14/2007
First Quarter: 7/22/2007
Full: 7/30/2007
Last Quarter: 8/5/2007

very neat experiment -- i'd join ya, but i'll be out of town in a few days.

I looked at the Old Farmer's Almanac and it said that the 11/12th are bad for planting and seeds will rot in the ground. I will plant half my seeds that day and then plant the rest on the 13th which is says is a good day to plant. Will update the post on the progress of the 2 planting areas.

I just looked at this post from Magpye -- http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3700992 and according to it.... there are 3 days where it says dont plant seeds - they will rot, but it doesnt mention a time to plant seeds. [flowers especially]

I did direct sow some yesterday (the 10th) -- i'll watch'em to see how they do.

I was looking at this page which says to plant flowers on the 13 and 14th

tcs--just find the next best planting date and do it when you return! ; ) That would be even better to have some on different dates? right?

true -- i'll keep an eye on that page you linked to [i've booked marked it already]

The seeds came up 3 days ago. Today I counted and I have TWICE as many seedlings in the area that was planted on the "correct" day for planting. I thought it was interesting that the almanac said that seeds would rot because we rarely get rain, but we did get rain the day I planted--so it was totally right on!

Very interesting

cactus -- that is interesting. I'll have to pay more attention to dates when i do seeds.

I'll be home around Monday -- and i'll check to see what the seeds are doing that i planted... i think that was on a "wrong" day.

though the only water they will get is rain. unless i'm there to water, which isn't all the time.

I just checked and the wrong day planted seeds have a few more that came up, so they were slower and still fewer than on the "correct" day.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I just got home today and checked for any sight of a sprout. nothing.
i think they were sown around the 12th, just before some rain hit... then we didnt get any rain again until -- oh i dont know, mid week 18-19th time frame [i wasnt home] but the kids said we got a lot of rain... and no rain in the near forecast.

i'll go water some tomorrow.

OH, also, when i go to the PO tomorrow and get our mail, I should have a envie of seeds... i was gonna try some perennials to see how that goes.

Very interesting, cactus! Planting them on the "wrong" day shouldn't mean they won't grow at all, just that planting them on the "right" day would be optimum. You proved it right!

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Yep it is proof enough for me. I am definitely going to try and follow the almanac now! Of course I have always been very in tune with nature. I wake with the sun and start to wind down when it goes down. Just makes sense and I did think I would prove it right. ; )
