Anybody have a clue. I thought it was a Carnosa of some sort but the leaves are throwing me off. Do the leaves look like this on some of them?

Tami...hard to see the leaves...but it does look like carnosa.

Tami,

I think I may have this same plant, when I first received it. I thought perhaps it was H. motoskei because of the leaves. I will shoot a photo of mine, because of our different growing conditions mine has taken on a much deeper pink, almost a mauve purple. It will be interesting to see if anyone knows anything about it.

Well on closer inspection, it doesn't look as if your leaves resemble mine. There are so many seedlings out there. Tami can I ask where you got your cutting/plant from, mine came from Kartuz years ago.

Here is the flower, the coloring in person is a little darker. Your leaves don't seem to have the veining on the back like mine does.

Oops, back of leaf

And my H. motoskei 's blooms are snow white.... go figger.

I thought it was H. motoskei befor it bloomed because of the leaves. All the H. motoskei's I have seen pictures of are white.

Tami...your leaf also shows it a bit different...could be one of the many seedlings running around.... Still is lovely!!!

Tami,
I can't remember where this one came from. I have only received Hoya's in trade or from Home Depot. I got this one in trade I know. I'll take pictures of the leaves in the morning. Then we can compare mine with yours.
Thanks Carol and Tami for your help.

I have 3 carnosas (non variegated) that are all a bit different, and I just discovered much darker flowers on one that I love.. still, they are carnosas. Also, I have seen a few of them that have very motoskei-ish leaves, but the pink flowers. So who knows!

Here is a picture of the leaves up close. I don't think this one is Motoskei at all. Maybe just a mutt Carnose. :-)

I really like those leaves!

And I really like the mutt carnosas, they are the best, reliable, hardy, and pretty plants. I don't care how common they are, they are awesome.

Yep, your leaves are different than mine, for sure. Every once in awhile mine will throw a leaf that is dimpled. Well, we just have two different seedlings, and very pretty one's at that.

TamiF, I just had someone send me a variegated carnosa (K princess)cutting from their plant with those dark pink flowers but they came a long long way and are very yellow, I don't know if they will make it - if not, would you be interested in doing a little trade with me? I don't know what you want, but I have a few and maybe something you don't have.....think about it. I have been looking for a dark pink flowered carnosa for a long time.

Jen...with different growing conditions, flowers 'can' be darker or lighter. For instance, my sp. Tanna Island blooms dark pink and the same clone blooms almost white for others..... I would hate for you to be disappointed.

I thought of that Carol, but the difference in the colors that I saw on the "donor" plant compared to the typical carnosa flower color was pretty extreme! Maybe even a little darker than TamiF's above picture.

Also, the girl who sent me the cuttings had 2 of these variegated carnosas (both the K princess type) and one of them looked just like mine, the pale pink flowers, whereas the other one had the deep pink. So, in her environment, she is getting the pale pink on one plant too, so in this case.. maybe it isn't the environment influencing the darker flowers, or she wouldn't be getting them either, both of her plants would be the pale color. Does that make sense???

So, I know what you are saying....but I am hopeful anyway! I need another carnosa like I need a hole in my head, and who knows when it will actually bloom. So far I have 3 of the plain green, not counting these new cuttings, 2 that have the pale pink and one that is lavender. I really NEEDED this new one...I just hope it makes it, it is yellow, but otherwise healthy. I don't understand why it turned yellow, the other cutting she sent me was still fresh and green (australis Lisa)....but the carnosa cutting looks like older growth, a bit woody, maybe that is why.

Tami, I may not be able to cut it this year, but next spring for sure. But I do have 2 - 2 node cuttings trying to root now. If it gets to looking a little better, I will let you know, either way your welcome to some of it. Like Carol said the growing conditions will play a big part in the color, but this one is alot darker color than any of my other carnosa's. Like you I have carnosa's comming out of my ears and there all a light pink, but very pretty.

Here is another umbel of the same NOID carnosa, this one seems to have alot of white in it.

And sorry the last post I should of said Bhavana instead of Tami. But I checked today Bhavana and the cuttings I started haven't rooted yet and are looking pretty yellow. Perhaps next year for a cutting.

Pretty flowa Tami, mine still hasn't bloomed yet:-(, it's growing well, but no blooms!

I'm glad yours is growing good, just keep it in a small pot and it will set buds. I made the mistake of potting it up. After I potted it back down it set 3 peduncles fast, and it is still in the same size pot. Hope it blooms for you soon :)
