I broke off a small piece of plumeria while moving a plant. It's about 5 in. Can I pot this up? It's been sitting out on the counter for about three days now. Can it be saved?
Do I need to care for the main branch in a particular way? Thanks.
broken plumie branch
It worths it to give it a try. I've some rudimental experiences with cuttings. As soon as the broken site is callused, you can try to pot it up in fast-draining potting medium. Keep it out of direct sunlight, mist it frequently if you can. Who knows, you may have a brand new plant there in matter of weeks.
I did some cutting on my existing plumie, no special care was needed at the wound site. It worked for me. Unless there are other plants around that maybe carry diseases, insect. Dusting the cutting site with fungicide, may help. But I haven't tried that with mine.
I've got nothing to lose so I'll give it a try as directed. Thanks!
another rooting medium of choise is 100% perlite or pumice. good luck! the short ones have rooted from some people.

I didn't actually get around to it today, since it rained. Is 100% perlite preferred? I still have the cutting sitting here.
hi andidandi - i should not have said "medium of choice." i only meant that there are other options. lily_love also made a good recommendation. given that your cutting is shorter than normal and most likely green i recommended the rooting medium with no organics to give it a better chance.

Thanks for the clarification. I will pot it up today and hope it survives.
andidandy; just follow-up, how did you plumie rooting turn out? Wished you alot of lucks.
One rotted, and it had little white worms in it when I pulled it up. The other one seems alright.
Great,
At least you've one new plant out of the incidence. :-) Try a Cactus potting soil for your new plant, the kind that's gritty and sandy. I've tried the light-weigh cactus mix. It's too light to help anchor the heavy cane. Best of lucks, I knew you could do it. :)
Yes. I definitely think my soil choice played into it. I mix perlite into MG, and I think that I used too little perlite.
