For the first time, I think I have a queen butterfly. It was flying around in the garden with a Fritillary and then i realized it was darker..more like brown than orange. I was perplexed. Tried to chase it for a picture and it wouldn't sit still. Then realized it was laying eggs on only the milkweed. YEAH!!! I was just whining that I only have frits this year. Got to go check my eggs now :)

Chris!
Awesome! Brown, huh? Not a Viceroy? Thats all I see around my house! Oh well! Good for you!
Adrienne
I don't think it is a viceroy only because it is lacking that black band across the middle of the hind wings. I guess I will know soon enough as it laid about 20 eggs which are now here in the house incubating. Can't wait to see the cats :)
Oh Chris ...me too! Post pics as soon as you can!
Adrienne
Yeah laying the eggs on the milkweed most likely rules out Viceroy, they would lay them on probably the willow familly. It laid them on the milkweed ,I'd agree with Queen.Best of luck with hatching those eggs!!!!!! Don
Chris,
It's so good to see someone excited about a Queen :o) I must admit we tend to take them for granted as they are abundant here. I often forget many places past this little tri-county area don't get the same butterflies.
Do hope you'll raise those eggs. The cats are voracious eaters too :o) Gotta love those three sets of tubercles that distinguish them from the monarchs.

Awesome, Chris!!! Do try raising some if you can! It's actually very easy and so much fun!
Great photos everyone!!! :-)
