After hearing so much about expanded shale from A&M I want to add it to some new beds. I've seen it in bags, but it is very expensive, Does anyone know of good sources? Maybe in bulk.
Thanks
Expanded Shale Source
Just did a search and found a product name.

no fair... they are up near ya'll.
CJM-Soil Supermarket is very close to me. I called them and they sell it for $65 a yard. They don't sell bags.
wow, that is quite pricey. I will have to stick w/ good ole boring compost for my clay soil.
Thanks Sheila. The bags I saw were $10.00 each at Calloway's so the $65.00/yard is much cheaper.
Here's one article I saw from A&M.

oh yeah. the bags are mucho dinero.
arguments are definitely compelling and Dr Welch has high credibility w/ me. The local rose people I hang around are going crazy over expande shale.
Sometimes I wonder, though, if this is not like the "hottest" fishing lure for the fishing enthusiast, lol. I have a closetful of gardening magic potions, but I am mending my ways. I told hubby I will not buy another thing until I use all I have in the garage closet. When it's all gone, THEN, I might get some e.shale, lol.

I know. It might be magic beans. And I realize its no substitute for compost.
Magic Beans? Magib Beans? tell me about Magic Beans!
I think it is fine to use it, but not really necessary.
Siggy, they have expanded shale at Covington's in Rowlett too. That's where my mom bought hers. It wasn't bagged, they just piled some in a plastic pot, with plastic around it.
Thanks Sandi,
I'll check it out.
