My New Plant

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

I picked up Bougainvillea today, because I thought it was soooo pretty.

Does anyone have any experience with this plant? Any recommendations?

It is a tropical vine that grows great in Fla. Either treat it as a house plant that you can bring outdoors for the summer or as an annual. It will grow on a support and takes full sun and shoud constantly bloom. Only downfall that I know of is thae flower debris.

it is a Bouganvilla!

They don't like being moved around. Find a good spot for it and leave it there for the summer.

I have one also. Are you putting it outside for the summer? I keep mine in my sunroom with a kind of southeast exposure and it does beautifully. Brug is right they do not like being moved around..They use LOTS of water so don't let it dry out or it is finished. They also are a very heavy fertilizer feeder.
Mine is so big right now that it is going to get a real trimming this fall.

Thanks for your helpful advice Kinnika!

I think I should chose a spot for it right now then! ;-)

Teresa... I am in Victoria too and have one. Just love the colors, they really are pretty. I also had one last year and it didn't make it as the frost got to it before I could move it indoors. So there you go it won't take frost and didn't come back from the roots either. I do hear you can keep them nicely controlled by triming and possible keep it as a shrub rather than let it go becoming a huge vine. Hope that helps a bit.
