I was out weeding this am and this guy was sitting so still on an adenium that I put my finger down to see what it would do. I think it may have recently emerged and was drying off. It stepped right on my finger so I moved it to the other side of me where there was a porterweed in bloom. I went in and got my camera and he was still there so I took the opportunity to get a few closeups. I think it is a GF but I'm no expert so correct me if I'm wrong.

Omigosh - awesome!!! Nature is incredible and your photography is great!
Great photos...and yes, it's a lovely Gulf Frit. Really do enjoy seeing those bright orange flutter bys around my passion vines :o)

I don't mind having my passion vines chewed up by caterpillars if it means I can have the Gulf Fritillaries. I had one "hatch: during a heavy rain storm on a cold day early this Spring. I was very worried because it sat on a flower stem for several hours before getting up the energy to take flight. I thought about holding an umbrella over it, but then it seemed that I might create an artificially dry zone and it would be pummeled with rain and knocked down as soon as it flew out from under the protection of the umbrella. I finally decided to let Nature take its course, and the GF finally did fly away, over the top of my 2-story house on its first attempt at flight.
I've done a painting of a GF, monschi, but can't seem to find the image, even though I know I borrowed the painting back from the owner specifically to have it photographed. But anyway, I can certainly understand that you can draw inspiration from budgielover's photos. They are beautiful!
