I normally have lots of frogs and toads in the garden this time of year, mainly seeing them in the evening; but I haven't seen one this year. Could this be due to the lack of rain? Has anyone else noticed the same thing? Or have they just deserted my garden. :)
Deb
No frogs?
We have tons of baby grey tree frogs. This thanks to my pond. You don't notice them since they're so small right now...until you step and see the tiny things bounding out of the way.
I feel like Godzilla with the villagers fleeing before me. We seem to have lots of toads and I can hear the frogs. I've been finding the little babies in the mulch as I'm weeding. Seems like things are slower to emerge this year- I think that late freeze knocked back more than the plants.
Godzilla...You are too funny:-)
My house sounds like a highschool band of toads croaking. But then again, my hubby had like 30 aquarium tanks set out in the woods raising fish. Hence their new hang out spot. We enjoy them, they lay their eggs which feeds the fish for protein. And they eat mosqito larvae. Not bad. I just love them on the screen door at night.
I was thinking where are the frogs but they're kicking in now. Seems to be be a bunch hatched last week. I kind of like when the night comes alive, we had a dry late summer and fall so I think the frogs took a hit but they're back. The jungle is coming back.
Ah, well maybe I'll see some lil croakers soon. Now that we're getting a bit of rain. I have been hearing them in the trees, but haven't seen one yet.

Is shipping tree frogs illegal?? Got plenty to share...they seem to love to take up residence not on the trees, but under bedroom windows! Shouldn't they be renamed Grey Brick Frogs???
Tgg: ;-D I'll trade you a few mosquitos....
Deb
I'm pulling them out of the skimmer of my pool every day. We now have two "pet" lizard frogs that my daughter insisted on keeping so had to get a tank for and have a big green one that I pull out every day plus misc others with him. For as often as I'm saving them, they better be eating as many of the bugs they can find.
Deb, you are so thoughtful;-) I think that we are at our limit for blood-suckers here, though...Just ask my DD. She's a mosquito magnet!! What's it about her ankles...?

Hey, Deb! I've noticed a drop in frog activity here for the past 5 years. The Bullfrogs used to be absolutely deafening on summer evenings. We still have some, but nowhere near the numbers we used to have. Tree frogs ("sticky toads") are still here, but not in the numbers they used to be. Years past, there'd always be at least a half dozen glued to the panel windows on either side of the front door every night, gobbling bugs attracted by the light. Haven't seen even one this year. Toads still abound, though. I must look like I've got St. Vitus' Dance trying to avoid all the babies on the driveway! I think the relative lack of rain for the past few years has hurt the frog population. But they're singing tonight! We got rain! Four tenths tonite, 3.5" over the last 5 days. Finally!!
Stono:
Wow! 3.5"!! Luxury!
We got a bit from a passing late afternoon t-storm yesterday, too.
If this keeps up, we might get back to near normal groundwater levels by the end of the summer... maybe.
I haven't even seen any Toads. My dog is very dissappointed, as she likes to stare them down. Maybe soon. If you're seeing babies now, we should soon.

Finally ....spotted the first little Toad of the season this morning.
Maybe he liked the big rain we had last night.
I told him to bring his friends and start chowing down on the mosquitos! (They've certainly been chowing down on me.)

I saw my first frog last night. Lots of bullfrogs in the creek thats runs behind our property. The misquitos are horrid this year. I have stated wearing the deep woods because they make such a meal of me with the other stuff. Aiken has their first case of west nile virus. I'll take my chances with deet.
We usually only have a couple frogs here each year, but this year they seem to be everywhere. Makes taking our Boxer for an evening walk a real challenge since he considers himself the official frog hunter of the neighborhood.
Hi Alice! You are very close to me. Matter of fact I work in NA. Would love to have a gardner to converse with sometime.
Alicewho: Hmmm.Maybe all my frogs moved to N. Augusta!
Nop! Not enough rain here to kidnap your frogs:)
Aiken, yes, very close... Hi Neighbor!
Deb, maybe the frogs are attracted to my neighbors new sprinkler system, or our couple of frogs from last year had lot's of babies =)
Maybe theres a from heaven:)
Oh golly, X! Don't say that. LOL! I've only seen one snake so far this summer and it was a 10" long garter snake. I don't want to see "the others". :)
