Too Wet to Plant?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a few things that I've needed to plant for a month now, but haven't been able to with all the rain. We haven't had any significant rainfall for 2 days. Is it safe to go ahead and plant or should I wait a few more days?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Might depend on how well the moisture has drained. Here in this mucky clay I'm holding off a day or two more for inground items but did set out a couple of plants in an Earthbox. Try digging a planting hole - if it looks waterlogged as opposed to just moist planting might be iffy.

Well, my plans may be for naught! There's a big black cloud coming straight towards my house!! Ack! Will this rain ever stop?!?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

No! Please, I don't want it to stop... remember last year? We can not continue to water like we did last year without more rain from above. The water table needs it... LOL

I don't want it to stop entirely, just enough so that I can get these plants in the ground! LOL Also, some of the flooded areas need to dry out and the lakes need to recede a bit so that they can take in more water.

I talked to my dad in San Antonio a few days ago and he said the aquifer is up something like 26 feet! WOW! I can't remember it being that high in a long time!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

The aquifer is now at 687 ft above sea level. Mandatory rationing begins when it drops to 650. The present level is good, but far from the record. We are prohibited from lawn watering from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. year round regardless of the condition of the aquifer. The weeds have long since gotten gargantuan, but I am still glad we have the moisture coming.

I grew up in SA and know all too well about water rationing and such. Now living in Fort Worth, I'm absolutely appalled at how carelessly people use water here. Much of what I do water wise is a carry over from growing up in an area where water is treated as precious.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I am appalled at the water abuse too but not just there. All over the state ~ even here where it is not even a worry. People need to start being educated about water conservation or we will be doomed. There are too many people moving into the state and the water supply will not keep up with the demand.

I am past putting things in ground and just worried that I can keep the stuff in pots from rotting... and say bring on the rain. : )
