What are these little swimmers?

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Anyone know what these little things are swimming around in my little water garden? Little oval shaped bug-like things. Tiny. They sit on the edge and they swim under water.
I put mosquito dunks in regularly, but nothing else to discourage or encourage varmints...... but are these something "bad" or "good"?

Thanks!

Do they crawl on the sides, or swim in the water?

From the pic, they look like snails.

Drsaul: They do both. Here's a closer look.

For lack of a better name I just call them waterbugs. Kind of oval and flat the swim around the pond with incredible speed. They are going to be around any time you have a natural body of water. How they get there I have no clue but they are not harmful.

I get water beetles in my pond all the time. Their really fun to watch. It's amazing what life will spring up in a body of water where there was none to begin with.

Tetley & Drsaul: That's them. Swim fast as lightening! I'll let them "carry on", then. Thanks for the info.
