Bionic begonia

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

This begonia has to be the fastest growing begonia I have. From a dormant tuber just a few months ago, to this...

Begonia 'Torsa', and I know, you've all seen it before, but I just wanted to brag a bit more... I just wish my others would grow this fast.

And by the way, Logees is having a begonia sale until the end of the month. http://www.logees.com/products.asp?dept=25
(what an enabler I am!)
I noticed that they are now selling the coveted and hard to find B. incisa terrarium begonia. Run, run fast to get one!!

Oh, thank you, begoniacrazii..........going there right now!!!!!!!!

***edited to say it wasn't on sale.......but there were some others....

Hmmmmmm.... I wonder! Actually both these came from our friend Carol (one the last time I visited her, she insisted I take another as they had planted themselves just about everywhere!) My first Torsa baby went to Kell because she is such a gem of a friend. Hoping for lots of bulbils this year.

now really, if I could only convince my other B's to grow this fast! (and ignore the hot dry winds too!)

I actually thought I gave it to you. I guess it was another lovely young lady.

You did! I was just teasing! I passed it along to Kell since I had the other. You should see the 'Troll' you gave me, it's really coming along. Went almost leafless over winter. I moved it up to a much larger pot about a month ago. I've hesitated removing the last two leaves from last year (very tip burned) as I want to use them to propagate it but dont have much luck with begonias with furry petioles. (any tips)

edited to say you gave my first Torsa to me and then Carol gave me another later in the fall and then just gave me another. Guess she has plenty? So the first one you gave me went to Kell.

Lovely thing isn't it...
What are you feeding that thing??? ;-)

Don't ya just love begonias... I have finally conceded to add a few more to my shelves...they are just so irresistible.

This one gets just water. I did give it some of the famous blue stuff about a month ago. But I think it's just in it's genes.
I am hoping it will get a regular feeding schedule as I just hooked up a fertilizer injector for my hose. Beats the heck out of refilling my 5 gallon bucket.

It's a very large grower then?? It's as big as that chair! :)

I really like it and the pics of those black ones posted on another thread...just beautiful.

Love the pics on the forum here...

Envy and jealousy setting in big time................a fertilizer injector..............I just want a big oil drum, throw in a 40 lb of fertilizer and just be able to water away.............never worrying about food for the plants.......in fact, I need a couple so I can have available 2 different fertilizers ready to go..................

Gail, EZ Flo makes big ones! you just dump in the miracle grow (or what ever you use) hook it up and go. That easy!
I installed one on my greenhouse drip system so now everything in there gets a weak solution each time I water. And hooked one up to the hose bib for faucet watering. No measuring, it does it for you!

Thanks, I am going to check out the EZ Flo one!!!!!!! We used to have all those systems in place when i worked in greenhouses..........sure makes life easier........

So as to not hijack Scubadoobie's other thread, I'll post more info on the LA Begonia bash in September

So many cool field trips are planned. One to our very own Begoniboy's incredible Floral and Garden shop - My tongue is still wagging from last September's trip to his place! Other stops include Lotusland (hard to get into!), celebrity gardens, Huntington & Descanso botanical gardens, begonia nurseries etc. Not to mention the show and seminars. I had a great time at the Florida convention (of course any vacation based on begonias is cool!)

Very Cool indeed...

Please do post as I get excited even thinking about getting to see begonias!!!!!!!!!!
