Do you have any idea if that 'black' caterpillar is the same kind as the others?
I've had several Eastern Black Swallowtail cats, but I've never had a black cat before.....

Yes, they are both Black Swallowtails. That was the reason I took the picture to document what they looked like. I have only had the one black one. Others on Dave's said that they had seen it happen ever now and then too, but no reason that they could give.
