Just made my first terrarium......excited!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a physician in Houston that I haven't seen in a year. For over 20 years I always take his secretary fresh flowers in a cute vase...........whenever I go see the doctor. This time I made her a terrarium....I hope it lives........
It has 3 episcia 'Pink Dream'
1 episcia 'Royal Ruby'
1 tiny dwarfed pepperomia
1 mini double purple av

One more view from the top.......everything I put in there is well rooted........so I hope all goes well for Ginny..........

Gail: Maybe you could type up a little card with "care instructions" for the terrarium? Unless she's a plant person she may be kinda scared of killing the plants. Some folks over water terrariums and they get too soggy and get root rot and die. You could tell her if she puts saran wrap over the top, she wouldn't have to water probably much at all, if ever. The humidity build up would be enough moisture with a lid on it. Might too want to mention that it shouldn't be in direct sun that would scorch the plants through the glass. So many people who aren't plant people would not know how to care for a glass terrarium.

thanks, Lin............hadn't even thought of that..............although on sundays i always include directions for keeping avs alive..........good idea............I think I better tell her just to foliar spray every once in a while.........i will have the saran on it when i give it to her.........I usually try to put one of those little packets of Optimara when i give away a plant....

(Zone 1)

Oh, that's a neat idea too Gail. Never thought of those little packets of Optimara plant food. I got some in a Goody Box from a Bingo Prize from Allison and really liked that plant food. Used it all right away, wish I had remembered that brand before having the local AV club order supplies. She got me a container of liquid plant food ... Dyna Grow. Never heard of it but I am gonna begin using it at a lighter than stated amount (until I see how it does) in between the VF-11. The Dyna Gro is 7-9-5 whereas the VF-11 is .15-.85-.55

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I had no idea that the VF-11 is a 15-85-55 fertilizer?????????? are you sure????????? I am going to read the label............7-9-5 isn't strong at all........kinda like the African violet food in liquid that Schultz sells............

(Zone 1)

Gail .... it's: 0.14 - 0.85 - 0.55

guess you missed the ( . ) before each number, LOL. So, no it's NOT that strong! hee hee.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I just hadn;t had a chance to get back to you.............i almost fainted,..missed the decimal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful, Gail! You just spread cheer whereever you go, don't you? :o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It is better than crying, Rain (ROTFL)..................I have loved flowers all my life.........it is the only way I know to say, "I like you".........or "You are so nice"...............i get a bigger kick out of doing it than she probably does in receiving it.............
Let's face it..........Life is Good!!!!!!!!

(Zone 1)

Gail, I KNOW everyone you give a plant to gets just as big a kick out of being on the receiving end! As much as I love plants ... and purchase many, it's always such a joy to receive one from family or friends too!

(blushing! ) But not worthy of such praise, I've seen your AV's and Gessies, and they put my poor pathetic neglected little 'uns to shame!

I left home before 8 this morning.........drove 200 miles to Houston.........gave Ginny her flowers, saw the doctor and drove 200 miles back home...........the good part??? she loved her terrarium!!!

She must have asked 3 times, "I really don't have to water"?

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I knew she would!! It was a great gift...

Oh, I knew she would love it too! That is really a unique gift that you don't hear of people giving or receiving very often, if at all. You are a Dear Sweet Lady Miss Gail!
