If anyone is near enough to come, this is a great day. I've been over there several times and would go back if anyone would like to attend.
I've actually got to hold a hummer and release it after banding. It's heart beats so fast, it just sort of buzzes in your hand.
LBL is part of the US Forestry Service. Designated a National Recreation Area. It's un-developed except for campgrounds and a few educational areas. The Nature Station has a wonderful 'Backyard' and birds and wildlife are quite plentiful. They have plantings of host plants and nectar plants for the butterflies too.
There are also other native animals and birds there that for various reasons can't be released into the wild. You can see a Bald Eagle or a Red Wolf up close if you like.
Just a thought...it will be next month....if you're close to west KY, you ought to try and attend...it's a yearly event...same weekend each year. Many experts and authorities will be there to answer questions...you can get the scoop right from their mouths.
