If you recall I was so excited to get my first brugs. It's been almost a month and they are just now starting to put out leaves. Of course, the first 2 wks. I had them our weather was very cool with freezing night temps. They got left out 1 night when we were gone, and of course it was below freezing that night. Now I've starting feeding them and making sure they don't dry out. If I can find my camera tomorrow I'll post a pic. So, If they are growing so slowly, I probably wouldn't see any blooms this year, huh? Or am I being to impatient? The Dr. Seuss is going to daughter (who lives in z9 on CA coast) in Aug. Maybe he'll be happier there :)

Brugs not doing much
Give them a little time. Have they made a 'Y' yet? I'm sure the Dr. Seuss will love California. Just remember that brugs are freeze babies, so always guard them against very cold temps. I have some planted in the ground here that were slow to recover from our 'big freeze' but did put out a few blooms before the weather got too hot.
Hey seabreezy...
I'm also awaiting my first brug-blooming... and living in the Pacific Northwest, I have my fingers crossed!
Hey Bonnie,
I couldn't see past the leaves in the last picture, but a 'Y' is where it splits to grow two branches at the growing tip. It looks like you have a 'Y' on the brug on the left in the first picture, and maybe on the other one also:)

Your second pic shows a secondary branch, not a Y. The Y occurs at the point of active growth. Here's a link that might help: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/648080/
Thanks andycdn for the link. That helps. I'll keep watching now that I know where to look.
Seabreezy -
Your brugs look a lot better than mine! Someone suggested that I use 20-20-20 3-4 times a week on them and I've started doing that and they are now taking off like CRAZY!!! I have a thread that shows the pics of my brugs, the second one has a Y. It's called, "I think I'm going to loose my Brugs! Please Help!" or something like that. There's a LOT of good information for you in that thread.
Mine still haven't bloomed but I JUST began using that much fertilizer last week and since they've put on another good 6-8 inches each, and that includes TONS of new healthy-looking leaves! Even if you end up waiting another year for the blooms, brugs are definitely worth it! Enjoy!
