Eastern Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes)
beautiful catepillars...i had a bunch {numbering in the dozens} (what do you call a large group of catepillars? ; ) of these in my garden last year invading my sweet fennel...sadly i never found any of the chrysalises to show my boys, but the end result is beautiful. amazing how large they get too. great pic.
Thanks! I was looking forward to watching these advance also, but a bird must have gotten them. I saw a wasp of some sort eating one of the smaller ones; got pictures of that, but don't know the kind of wasp to post them. He lingered in the area until all of them were gone.
