I am starting a new thread for everyone to list their recommended books. This thread will be linked from the sticky thread (to find easier). I suggest if you are looking for some good books ..... go to your public library FIRST and check these books out to see if they are what you are looking for.
My favorite books are:
Florida Butterfly Gardening by Marc and Maria Minno
The Family Butterfly Book by Rick Mikula
Field Guide to Butterflies of North America by Jim Brock and Kenn Kaufman
And if you are looking to purchase any of them .... check Amazon.com first as they usually have new and used books for good prices!
Good Butterfly Books
Here is a book I recommend for IDing caterpillars in the eastern states:
"Caterpillars of Eastern North America" by David L. Wagner
my favorite books are
National Audubon Society Field Guide to Butterflies of North America
Butterflies of North America by Jim P. Brock & Ken Kaufman
Caterpillars of Eastern North America by David L. Wagner
Florida Butterfly Caterpillars and their Host Plants by Marc C. Minno, Jerry Butler, & Donald W. Hall
Caterpillars in the Field and Garden, A Field Guide to Butterfly Caterpillars of North America by Thomas J. Allen, Jim P. Brock, & Jeffery Glassberg
The Ultimate Guide to Backyard Bugs- Garden Insects of North America by Whitney Cranshaw
As Becky said most of these books can be purchased as used but in new condition for less than half the retail price through Amazon. I haven't gotten a bad book yet
