Had no clue as to how to separate babies

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok............i did some more separating only this time i got frustrated and got out the razor blade..........just started cutting as I could not see crowns.......it won't be long until i find out what I did right and what i did wrong!!!!!!!!!!

I have never actually watched someone do this.......so, just do it!!!!!

we will either have lots of "South Shore" or maybe none at all????????????
That razor blade works better for me than gently tugging and pulling.......

What does the bloom on South Shore look like? I did a google search but found no AV named South Shore.

Mine is blooming right now.......let me take a quick picture........I am sorry........it is called South Shore Rose.........
****the bloom is fantastic but the foliage leaves something to be excited about........I got it from BlueBird

Oh, I like, I like! Very pretty! South Shore Rose is the perfect name for that one!

Well, as I said, there will be an abundance of them or none..........the leaf is a pretty shape.....long and oval.........

I like the leaves on this one, they really appeal to me on some level. Hope they grow for you Gail!!!

Speaking of leaves that appeal to me...my cousin sent me this violet....it's a NOID .....an old NOID!!!!.......but the mother plant belonged to my grandmother who passed on nearly 20 years ago. I would grow it just for that fact ...........but I really love these leaves...

I've only had this plant about two weeks but it is setting buds now. My cousin tells me the blooms are nothing to write home about and that the leaves are the best part of the plant. I'm still looking forward to them...

Another angle on the leaves....

Gail,
Looks like you did a fine job with your babies!
You must be very skilled...every time I get close to a razor I make a bloody mess of my self..lol

You're right you just have to be brave and DO IT!

Brenda that's a lovely girl leaf av... I'd hang on to it for sure...love those vintage violets, even the NOIDS.

MsC

Gail, your separating job looks mighty fine! :o) I bet you'll have plants coming out your ears...as if you didn't already. ;o)

LOL MsC, I haven't even tried a razor blade, as I know that's just a baaaaad idea for me.

Beautiful girly AV, Brenda! Is that the only one you've got with girl leaves? I might be able to convince Silly Girl (on the left) and Persian Prince (on the right) to donate a leaf or two to you, if you'd like. :o)

I have to go find Persian Prince....Amy........I know you sent several and that was one because i remember the fine foliage........

I do remember sending you that one. I thought you'd like it! :o)

I found some more that you sent......not ready yet.......
**Persian Prince..........I must have cut on the slant the wrong way........all coming from the back of the leaf

Sometimes they come up from the back...sometimes they come up all the way around the mom leaf and look like a wreath. LOL As long as they come up, I don't care where it is! ;o) They look great!

I thought I had others with "girl" foilage but I went and looked at official descriptions of a few of mine and I found that what I thought was girl foliage was not!

No wonder I found this foliage unique, I hadn't seen it before and don't own another one with it! Rain when we trade again I definitely want more girl foliage! I love that Persian Prince and Silly Girl is a looker too!

I groomed my grandma's plant and put some leaves down from it, can't wait to see them grow. Here's a picture fromt his morning with the buds....

I've got down leaves of Biscayne Trail, Cambridge Missy, and Optimara Meg, too, so hopefully I'll have some plantlets of those I could send you. I love girl leaves! :o)

Please be sure to post pictures of your grandma's plant when it blooms. It will be a beauty no matter what the blooms look like. :o)
