I planted this in the spring and when it was still little I had a couple blooms. However, now it is huge but no blooms at all. Is this just because of the wet weather? It is in southern exposure. Also, for those who got a hardy red hibiscus from me at the spring roundup, apparently it is october rose as the plants look exactly the same. I just went by what the seed packet said so sorry about that.

question about october rose
If what you have is Hibiscus cannabinus, that plant blooms in the fall, I had one last year and it started blooming in September, also it didn't make it through the winter, so it has to be treated as an annual here, maybe for you it will be hardier.
This is the one I am talking about;

Hibiscus radiatus is also known as October Rose.

They both look so similar.
Kim , one of the H. cannabinus photos shows a leaf with the note that says leaves are edged in purple. That is not the case with H. radiatus. The flower petals in H. radiatus seems to spread apart and take on a more open look. I think I like the look of the H. cannabinus flower better.
Josephine, depending on where you look, the zone hardiness for H. cannabinus is through zone 8. Maybe heavy mulching would help. When you start it from seed, will it be large enough to bloom in the fall? When do you start the seed?
Hello Veronica, I started mine in March inside and transplanted to the outside when it was warm.
They grow very fast and it did bloom the same year.
I might try it again next year, I do have plenty of seed if you would like some.
Josephine.
