Hi everyone. It's hot here today. Jack says the forcast has cooler temps and maybe even a good rain in sight in the next few days. Our state fair is opening tomorrow so anything could happen during the next ten days. We often have high winds, heavy rains, even tornados during the fair's 10 days. I watered everything really well last night, so heavy rains wouldn't suprise me any.
We got 23 1/2 pints of green lime pickles finished yesterday. I haven't made them for a few years so it was a relearning process. Then I finished making a few 1/2 pints of sugar free plum butter for Jack. I have some watermelon rind in the 'fridge so I'll make pickles with them in a few days when I have accumulated enough. The rind is from our first watermelon of the season from our own garden. A Sugar Daddy, so it will take a couple to get enough to make a batch of pickles.
I have a chocolate cake in the oven for the cafe' and will likely make a banana one too. So much easier than to wait until Thursday to make it all. This morning I made a mix of the impossible pies and whole lemon pie recipes only I used limes. I have learned that lime peelings have a lot more acid and a bitter taste that lemon peelings don't have. That is one sweet/tart pie. It also didn't hold shape well so we served it in a bowl. There weren't many takers and I told my bosses that I wouldn't hold it against anyone if they don't like it. I don't like it, so why should they have to? The lady boss thought it was great, or so she said. Her husband called it interesting and agreed it sure was a waker-upper for his tastebuds. The other employee said she liked it except for the bitter aftertaste. Next time I'll cut the amount of peeling I leave on the lime. That should cut down on the bitterness. I noticed the small one I left for my guys was gone when I got home.
I need to go get some supper started so we can eat before going to church. Jack may not feel up to going. He's had a pretty long hard day already. I just sent Shad in for a much needed shower. He has been mowing and weed eating so he is covered with grass dust, etc.
Moses(the peacock)has really made life miserable for poor Thomas. Today I made the mistake of leaving them both free for the first time in several days. When I got home from work I noticed that Thomas was missing-again. Shad & I looked for nearly and hour-or so it seemed- before we found him hiding in some tall weeds down the fence row toward the machine shed. A long walk for an old heavy bird with bad feet. Even tho he was in heavy shade he was so weak from thirst & hunger that he was hardly able to make any sounds at all. We brought him back up to the house and he is in the utility room with a fan blowing directly on him. He also has some fresh watermelon and watermelon juice to eat/drink. I don't think I will ever be able to really care much for Moses again.
Sorry I rambled so long. Have a great day/evening everyone.
