I've come back around to wanting some chickens in my back yard. The chicken tractor is still unfinished but it won't take half a day to get it done, or I MIGHT invest in a HenSpa if I can find a good price on one.
I don't want to raise them, I just want to give three hens a good home, maybe older ones. I'd love to have eggs, but that's not the primary goal here. My soil (thanks to the builders) really needs what chickens will do for it. And I like chickens! I don't care whether they're pretty, but healthy is a must. SO... my question is where do I get them? Just call feed stores? I honestly don't know any farmers, though there are farms around here. Any suggestions? Anybody live near Lumberton, Texas, and want to get rid of some?
TIA!
I want three hens
Have you checked craigslist or freecycle for your area ??
You might want to check out Backyardchickens.com as they have a for sale/ trade board and there are lots of folks in Texas over there.
Good luck !!

Try calling your local animal shelter. You never know what they might have rescued. Or just run an ad in your local paper saying you're looking for hens. I'm afraid if you get older ones you're going to get ones that are no longer laying or close to it, though. And I don't know how you're going to know anything about their health unless you buy from a hatchery.
OK
I'm ignorant
