Had to join the fun....

(GayLynn) Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Did up a couple of terrariums today.
Got this container a couple of months ago for a great price. Thought I would start with something simple without a big investment and see how things go. This one has just one lone plant in it.

Here is the second one I did up today. The container is a big candle holder on an iron stand. I put a clear plate on the top for a cover. Again, started with just some simple plants to see how things turn out.

Those look nice!
I have several of those large cookie jar type for terrariums and love them.

Glad to have you join in the fun.

they look nice!

good to try some things out rather than just keep thinking about trying some. (I am doing the latter)....

Thanks MsC! I think the plants I put in them are a bit too big but I can always switch 'em out later. Gotta experiment.
Thank you Keyring, yup, been thinking about trying this for quite a long time, finally got bored today and spotted the container I had stashed away.
I also have an empty 50 gallon aquarium and a 10 gallon aquarium that I am thinking about planting up if these two work out.

You can always take clippings of the plants in there and start other terraiums with the clippings...

Those aquariums would be great for terrariums planted with Episcias...I keep dreaming of a 50 gal with E. Cleopatra planted to the brim in it...lol

I like the aqauriums for a couple of reasons over jars and pots....

They are easy to put a light on and the are big enough surface wise to do a nice mixed planting ...one that will stay nice for about a year or so....

I have about 50 terrariums, mostly smaller ones already planted and maybe 10 more to do at some point in time...

Wow.... 50! When I grow up I wanna be just like you!!!!
Didn't even think about the added bonus of a light over the aquarium. Great idea. Then I wouldn't have to find a spot next to a window for it but could actually put it in a dark corner. Thanks MsC!

And, if it's out of the window, there should be less algae growth :-)

Haha... well I'm blushing now... mine are in various stages of life... but I like them...

The aquariums are a lot of fun... you should try your hand at them...they sure bet cleaning fish tanks..lol

Now, I keep my "water puppies" on my screensaver...lless mess.
