I found this handy Current Moon Phase page. It's a good place to start understanding. Apparently it changes daily, just bookmark it. Tells if the moon is waning or waxing as well, which seems to be important in this venture we have embarked upon.

It seems we can alter it for time zone and hemisphere too - very clever. I'd been wondering about that.
I'll see if I can look out an old almanac later to see if we can apply the principles from that - got visitors just now.
just in case you missed the last link I posted .... this site has a calender you can download and it tells you what each day of the month is good for... there is also a lot of good info on it

Hi onewish1. I can't find a page there as you describe - just an ordinary month by month 'what to do'.
Please can you put a link to the one that shows the days of the month, say for July?
Just thought I'd throw this in. Sometimes, days slip by and I forget whether the moon is waxing or waning. To tell by looking at it, Christina Rosetti wrote this poem:
O Lady moon, your horns point to the east;
Shine, be increased.
O Lady moon, your horns point to the west;
Wane, be at rest.
It's helped me out considerably, especially in those times when the moon isn't apparent.

brigidlily, here's another way, a reminder using the word DOC. When the moon has the shape of the letter "D", it is waxing. With the shape of the "O", it is full (of course). When it forms a "C", it is waning.
That's great I never knew that about the waxing and waning.
