I was just reading up on this hibiscus and it is a Cajun Hibiscus. Does this just mean that it is one that Dupont Nursery introduced? Are all of theirs named as Cajun Hibiscus as a series they have introdced?
Thanks

I also see where this one was formerly known as "Miss Iberville."

I have the same one that I bought from Dupont. Still waiting for it to bloom.

Hi Kell,

I visit Dupont frequently. I have a nursery and therefore go 2 times a month. It is about a 4 hour drive but I get to pick the plants for my nursery. Well Worth the trip!!! They consider theirs Cajun Series as Curt Sinclair out of florida refers to his as collectors series. I think it has to do with their location in the heart of Cajun Country La.

Oh Robert, what a dream job. And what fun to go to Dupont so often. Thanks for the info!

All of these I have been posting come from Dupont too. I get them in 2 gallon pots from a nursery here.

Thanks everyone. The flowers are just huge on this one. This is an older bloom, the pink fades out as the bloom ages as you can see.

Hi Kell,

If you do plant any in the ground be sure to have warming blankets for the winter. Only when it gets below about 45 degrees and you have some strong winds. The cold winds get them quick if you are off of your guard. We are re-modeling our yard and plan on putting 15-20 extra hybrids that I have in the ground. Kinda scarry thinking of all the $$$$$ and time but the reward will be priceless!!!

Take care,
Robert

We are also doing the remodeling thing Robert and it is scary isn't it? I have successfully wintered the common varieties in the ground here and did well with the hybrids in pots that I kept very dry. My fear is a wet winter when they are in the ground. It is always windy here and I have not found that to be a big issue. The extreme temperature fluctuations are what give me problems in the spring.

Mine are also mostly in the ground. My biggest fear is hurricanes, not freezes.
Lots of blankets and sheets for the very rare below 40 degree winter night.
But hurricanes......lets hope this year is an easy one.

Thanks for the info. I will definitly have it together. I too am afraid ot the hurricane's being smack dab along the gulf.
your not alone but it seems that most of them all pass through you to get to me. NOT GOOD!!!

I hear you Cat and Pizonne. We haven't had a bad hurricane here for over 100 years; I am in that indentation of the coastline between Jacksonville and Charleston and we seem to be protected. However, we can never take a chance and we have to do the collect the pots and secure the garden shuffle whenever a storm is nearby.

I think living in a Hurricane zone would be scary, after seeing all the pics of damage on the news. Glad all we have here is earthquakes...

I'll be keeping all of you hurricane-prone hibiscus lovers in my thoughts :-)
