on the dill

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Another lady at farmers market told me she cats eating her dill and she was squishing them. I begged her not to squish any more and to bring them to me. She found this one on the dill she brought to market yesterday. I can't find him/her in my book. Which one is it?

P

P.S. now that she knows they're butterfly cats, she's no longer squishing them.

Whoops! Forgot the picture.

My book says Black Swallowtail eats dill but this one doesn't look like what's in the book. Possibly an instar not shown?

Definitely a BST cat! It is an early instar (2nd instar, I believe). Good going telling the lady at the Farmers Market about the cats/butterflies! Whoo hoo! Looks like you are in business with some new babies! Good luck raising them all! :-)

Now that she knows what they are, she's keeping them. I only got this one from her because it was on her dill she brought to market to sell.

Help!

I put this lil bugger on a flat of 4"pots of dill and it's just about to finish them all off and I have no more. Will it eat anything else?

Try parsley, fennel, or Rue.

P, you can buy Dill and Parsley at the grocery store, wash it, and they will eat it.

My parsley is still too tiny so I hope my fennel hasn't drowned in all this rain. No rue. Will remember next year to grow rue and more dill, fennel and parsley.

My fennel plant just keeps getting eggs laid on it. Now because of all the rain it is loosing whole branches, they are mushy near the soil. My Rue is also looking very bad and I may loose it.
On a good note, my milkweed plants are sprouting from seed that I planted early spring, so maybe I will have enough for some Monarchs this year!!
I don't have dill, but like bigred, I will make sure to set out more bf host plants next year!! Maybe use pots so I can control the drainage problem.

I think the suggestion others have made here is a good one ...... when you get baby cats, buy some parsley or dill from the grocery store and feed it to them! Or perhaps ... you can find more plants at the nursery!! Good luck with your babies. I know that most herbs to don't like wet feet at all. :-(

Has the rain finally stopped out there in Texas?

In our area we have had a few nice days with no rain. Now the ground is crusty on the top! Guess we will need to water this week if we don't get a little rain.
