looking for the right parrot who will love me forever

I was in Hawaii until yesterday, and in the hotel there was a salmon crested cockatoo named ' Butterscotch'. She is 17 years old, and I fell in love with her. She wanted to be scratched under her wings, on her head, and she raced down the perch when she heard my voice.
I started researching these birds, and got totally scared of getting one. The are described as neurotic, terribly loud and demanding birds. They say their bite is worse than any other parrot, and they turn from angelic to demonic in a split second.
I have experience with a range of birds, but now I would like to have a big bird.
Which one should I get? I am a stay at home mom and I lovvvvve birds.
My husband probably couldn't take screaming too much; for him my love birds are over the top, he wears earplugs during morning greetings.
