With all of this rain, I've been getting lots of extra volunteers this year. Here's one that popped up behind my shed, and is already about 3 or 4 feet high. It had small pink flowers on it a few days ago, but they now seem to be turning into berries. The longer leaves in the photo are 8 inches long, to give a sense of perspective. I have also spotted a good number of these at various points along the edge of the woods behind my house.
Anyone know what this is? Is it a keeper?
Thanks!
Dennis

Dennis I am not totally sure, but it could be American Poke Weed, here is a link;

Josephine.
I think you are right. Thanks Frostweed!
I guess I will dig it out. It sounds like an interesting plant, but it spreads agressively. Too bad.
You are welcome, glad i was able to help.
I have Pokeweed also, but allow it to grow. Good native habitat plant, edible if prepared as directed...and birds just love the berries. I've heard it's invasive, but so far not a problem here. One good thing about living with so much caliche...I can grow certain things that are invasive elsewhere and it doesn't seem to be such a problem here.
I think it is a lovely plant too, has not been invasive here either.
If it isn't invasive in Arlington then I am guessing that Grapevine should be OK. I will leave it and see what happens. :)
