I don't know what kind of beetle this is - maybe one of you does, but fruit seems to be very popular with all winged creatures!
Party on the banana!
That is awesome Pamela. I saw that picture and am going to buy bananas tomorrow and let them rot. That is so cool to have so many BF on that thing. Where did you set the plate? Close the house, far away from the house? I am just wondering what other critters might become interested in it.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow, that's quite a mob!
I haven't tried it either....thinking it would be over run by ants, but it looks like they all share.
Good going Pamela!!!
Looks like you got gobs of Tawnys. Those are the top fruit feasters out here too. It's always nice to see a splash of color from a bluewing or malachite in the bunch...but must say, those tawnys are piggies.
I also see a Red Admiral in your photo but can't make out the other on the left...is that a leafwing?
Not sure what that beetle is...I get those down here...or something similar...on the butterfly bait. You can check out Texas Beetles at this website...or email Mike Quinn for an ID.

Pam and Delisa - Great photos!
Delisa - What fruit is on that plate? Looks like bananas, apples, and oranges?
Hmmm...that middle fruit looks like a mango? but I don't see the seed...perhaps an apple? Hmmm...now I'm curious too...

Looks to be a super-fantastic banana party they're having, to boot! .. LOL ..
The green beetler hoggin' up and partakin' of the nanner .. is one of the Green June Beetles. See what ya think, Seems that yours resembles the Cotinis nitida > http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/804/ more so than the Cotinis mutabilis > http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/96

Cat, if I'm reading your question correctly, I think the flutterbye you're inquiring about .. is the Question Mark! Matter of fact, purtee sure I see a couply of Question Marks in the photo.

I have one wooden screen bottomed tray birdfeeder hanging in a small tree, and another on a pedestal from my sundial so I can view them better.
They get so involved in the fruit you can touch them and they do not move at all. I am careful not to touch too much in fear of damaging their wings... But very fun to watch! They park on the friut all day, and around 5 or 6 in the evening they chase each other around.
I have had Question Marks, Red Admirals, and Monarchs so far - had not yet identified the Tawny's...
Great photo, Pamela! I put out some mashed-up rotten bananas on Sunday, and a Hackberry Emperor landed on my arm while I was putting it down. I guess I wasn't going fast enough for him!

I was amazed at how quickly they found the fruit - I have tried other fruit before but never got the same reaction until I used bananas.
I have so many plants for butterflies and hummers, but the butterflies never lingered in my garden long enough for me - until now, with the fruit plate!
