I hadn't seen a single Monarch in my yard yet this year. All kinds of Frittillaries, BSTs, a Zebra Longwing, Sulphers.... but not a single Monarch. Finally, today, as I was out in the butterfly garden planting another Jatropha and more Porterweed, I saw not one but 4 Monarchs. Get ready Becky.... they're on their way.
Now I need to go out and check my Milkweed and see if they left any little eggs behind.

Finally! Monarchs are arriving in Indialantic
So Terrie, does that mean I have any chance of still getting some here in Texas? I have just recently bought my butterfly weed (milkweed) and was really hoping for some babies but it may be too late in this area. Do you know if I have a chance?
Leslie
OH I will have to keep my eyes out for them!
Thanks for the heads up, Terri! I'll be looking for more to come! :-)
Leslie - If they don't show up now, they WILL be back in the Fall! Especially in Texas where they migrate to Mexico!!! I have been seeing one or two lately, but not like I will probably see in the Fall. (Which is fine, since I just pruned all my MIlkweed back to 2" above the ground. Trying desperately to get rid of those darn MW beetles! Argh!!!! They are everywhere!!!
I just rescued the first 5 Monarch eggs from my yard this year too. Hope they all make it.
Leslie - I bet you'll have some any day now.
I saw one egg, but wasn't searching for them today. I was actually looking for BSTs and GFs for the cages already going.
Becky - I haven't seen but a couple of the MW beetles. But between the MW and the dill the aphids are going to eat me out of house and home.
Terrie
Terrie-
Thanks for the news! They have been in small numbers in my yard too!
Adrienne
Thanks Becky and Terrie. I have gone out and bought three milkweed plants just for that purpose so am hoping they do their magic and I have not missed out already. And Becky you are so right about the fall. Monarchs fly through here like crazy. I remember sitting outside at work for five minutes and just watching them fly by. You would see about 20 in your eyesight and as they flew by if you kept staring at the same spot that many more would come into view. A beautiful sight to behold. I had not even thought about them visiting my plants in the fall. I am so excited.
Leslie
Check your milkweed! I found 5 Monarch instars on mine today. Yay!
