Just couldn't help myself (shredded white)

Oakland, CA(Zone 10a)

I saw this at a local nursery and just couldn't pass this up. I don't see too many shredded brugs in my area. I am wondering if anyone in the DG community has hybridized with a shredded brug, and if so what were the results?

I love my Shredded White..
the way it flowers first here.. and always seems to have some sort of blooming going on.. 1--2--3-- heare and there... allways seeming to be in bloom.. and it's got to be one of the most fragrant blooms about... Such A Joy... Gordon

My Shredded white is just a baby this year but if it does good I plan to polinate it with Day Dreams that a great friend sent me, it is about the same size so will need to wail until next year.

Hi Frank,

You were asking if that anyone had hybridized any new cultivars using Shredded White, well I found a brand new brug using Shredded White.

I came up on this while checking out what brugs were being offered on eBay. This new cultivar is called 'Valley Shredded Peach'. Here is the link to it.

I recently had several blooms on my shredded and tried to pollinate them. I had tough time trying to find the stigma. What appeared to be the stigma was split and affixed to the corolla. I only found anthers on one of the blooms. Is this normal for this variety?

That is a cool bloom David. I didn't have a good experience buying from that individual in the past. To grow from a cutting to bloom takes a long time just to find out it's not what you purchased. A lot of people like him and have had great service, I sure didn't.

Yeah Fred, Good question! I gave my shredded white away, but I have a couple of double whites that do that. I've had to almost totally destroy the bloom to get to the stigma.

That bloom looks deformed!!! I don't think I would buy from this seller--he is unknown and FB is not the best. If anyone knows more--please post

Half moon bay nursery had 6 shredded whites in 7.5 gallon pots with buds and flowers - but at 49 .95 I passed .
They did have Miners claim for about 25 - 5 gallon but no buds - it's in my back yard - they had 3 more left last weekend .

That is a nice photo of the shredded white, you picked up. I have tried to hybridize my shredded white brug tree but like Trifred said, above, many of the stigmas were twisted and stuck to either a petal or some were even sort of dried up already as soon as the flower opened. I got mine into a tree form and finally bloomed this spring after a year of growing slowly. Here is mine. I am a new member here at DG.
