I just replaced our former feeder pole with a new one that has 2 hooks and added a mesh finch feeder to the old mixed-seed one. For the entire day NO birds came and today just a handful have shown up. Is this normal? Has anyone experience with the mesh thistle feeder that doesn't have perches?
new feeders/no birds!
Hi frogandtoad (love the name, btw!),
I haven't tried the mesh thistle feeder, but I think it's normal that you haven't had many birds yet. Birds are cautious creatures and it might take them a few days to get used to the new feeder. They do that when I put a new one up. Also, a change by a feeder might make them avoid it for awhile. My mom has hanging baskets by our thistle feeders and the birds wait their turn on them. Well, the plants died and she put new ones in the baskets, yesterday. It took the birds about half a day to realize the petunias weren't going to kill them, lol.
