Wanted:Pink tiger lilly?

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Hello,
Does anybody have any pink tiger lillys? Is there such a thing or are they just asiatic lillys.
I was looking for the kind with the spots like the orange ones.
If you have them I'd love to trade something for a couple of them.
Thanks,
Sue

they do come in pink...............and yellow i think. i only had one of the pink ones to come up and it isn't blooming now. i am sure that someone will have them but if not contact me next year and maybe more of mine will show up. i got them in the ground late this year.

Sue, I have some of the pink ones I planted last year. Not enough came up for trading but I'm pretty disappointed in the color. It's a pretty muddy, brownish pale pink and the spots are barely visible. They aren't as curved as the orange tiger lilies either - look more like just an asiatic lily with a not very pretty color.

I hope next year after they've had a year to grow the color will improve.

she is right. that was the color of mine as well. lol.

Do the pink tiger lilies make bulbils?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

it has what i call scales that can be removed and planted to make new lilies.

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

Hi mamajack, Do the scales grow up the sides of the stalks? The orange tiger lilies have oodles of bulbils--they grow up the sides of the stalks. Thanks!

well i just found out that lilies do that earlier this year. last year i saw that some of my asiatics had done that and i snapped off the new little bulb that was on the stalk and planted it so i could have another plant. lol. oh well live and learn. but i just planted these and so i have never moved them to see if they have done that this year.

and sandy, on the bulbils...........that is what you call the new little bulb that these make ON THE STALK? and the original bulb...............the individual layers are called scales? or did i make that up? is there ever a time that you can take the bulbils and make new plants? how many bulbils will they make? one a year per stalk?

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

Sorry, I didn't count the bulbils per plant--I have just been picking them off. I'll count what's left and let you know.

lol. i am not sure we are communicating with each other. i think i misunderstood you. but on the bulbils............you remove them from the stalk but you don't remove the stalk, right? i was told on another forum that you don't remove the stalk as the lilies get their food for the next year that way.

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

Hi Mamajack, I got about 35 bulbils from 1 of my orange tiger lilies Sunday morning. That's right--you remove the bulbils but not the stalk. I don't know what to do with all of the bulbils--I don't want that many plants. I thought that if you got bulbils from the pink 1 that maybe I could get a couple of them from you.

but i gotta dig it up to see, right? lol. and i have nothing else to do. rof laughing louder than anybody. you ain't even the one who asked about these in the first place. hahahahahahaha and now i'm being asked to check my stalk for bulbils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha i really am laughing out loud at us. yes, i will check but maybe not first thing tomorrow or the next. it has been raining here every dang day and if i get a minute in the garden it is to try and save a rotting iris or pull weeds. my new way of "mowing" the grass that i don't want anyway is to lay cardboard down on the ground. the grass is 2-3 ft. high. i feel pretty sure that the better class of people than are moving in all around me don't approve of my methods but i ain't cutting grass with the hr. or two that i have. and i just found out that the city is not writing letters of warning about the tall grass anyway. so i ain't worried. i'm gonna wait till i get my letter to mow anyway, just like i always do.

Hey yea,what about me, lol!!!!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

now see what you got started sandy. the original person was bound to come into this thing eventually and demand some attention. well listen up then sandy..............i dig out around the bulb........the ground is so soft i can prob. just scoop it out with my hands. lol. and check the stalk...........now if i find a bulbil is it going to come off in pieces or what? what i am going to be removing is just the small little scale thing, right? won't that take forever and a day to bloom?

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

Hi Mamajack, I know what you are talking about with those scale thingys. That's not bulbils like I am talking about. My bulbils grow up the stalk where the leaf attaches to the stem of the stalk. Do you want some orange tiger lily bulbils? I dug up some yellow Asiatic lilies last week--they had those scales on them around the stem close to the bulb and up a couple of inches. I hope you and I know what we are talking about????????????? heehee

Sorry about you glamourpuss......................

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i have the orange as well. sorry to everyone as i still haven't had time to check the plant. it hasn't rained for 3 days and i have been mowing my yard, another house and a pasture. gotta get it done before the next onslaught.

This might help.

Click on the photo to enlarge it. See the little round things right at the base of the leaves? Those are bulbils.

Glamourpuss, I haven't seen any bulbils on my tiger lilies or I'd be glad to send you some. You might want to try asking in the seed trading forum.

Good idea :) Thanks,

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

oooooooooooooooooooh! no, i didn't know they did that. i can check that easily but i don't think i have any. at what point do lilies make these? do certain conditions have to be met? and i can plant each one of those and get a new plant?
