Changing hummer nectar

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

How often do you change your hummingbird nectar? I read somewhere that it ferments after sitting in the feeder too long, esp. if it's hot outside. Do you change yours every day, every other day, once a week? Ours is in the shade, but it's still hot outside.

When it's cloudy or every third day usually. I usually put in only enough nectar for one day or so anyway...

Good idea--thanks, Judy! Hey, I still have the cuttings in water--can't find propagation info in the honeysuckle, but I'm gonna try rooting powder. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again!

I was weeding today, and saw a hummingbird visit a marigold--I was surprised, as those have such a yucky smell!

I only put in enough for a couple of days. If its gonoe by then I rinse it and put more in. If they are still feeding on it I either wait until it's gone or they stop feeding on it. That's usually a good sign it's gone bad.

Thanks! I had heard it can ferment, and make the poor li'l things drunk!
