Alocasia Cuprea is starting to bloom

Louisville, KY

YEAH!! My Cuprea is getting so big and it is shooting up a flower stalk now!! Pollen anyone?? I am never any good at doing any of that. I just grow em to grow em!!! If I get motivated I will post a pic. I just wanted to share the news!! I did not think it would EVER bloom. My Amazonicas and Dewey's Reversa's bloom all the time but now this one is! It has 5 big leaves and a black little shoot coming on now.........don't you all just love this!? It still does not have any babies though. : (

Congrats!

How do you grow your Dewey's Reversa? In pots or in the ground and then dig them up?

Both, I have all of them in pots but two. I put them in the ground about 2 weeks ago. I have had them for about 2 years. They really aren't really doing much. I put them in partial shade. One is shooting a new leaf up, but the edges is yellowing. It was like that prior to putting in the ground. Hopefully some guano I put on it will make it feel better. I guess I will have to wait for the new leaves and the older ones to die off or something to get rid of that It feels weird putting these type on non hardy plants in the ground. It makes everything look so much better. If I had time I a whole lot more in the ground.
Do you have any?

I am in Louisville if you have extra pollen I could cross it with macrorrhiza. I would get you some of the first hybrids if it takes. Let me know my macs are flowering now also. I think you came out to my place ones before last year or early this spring.

I love lots of EE in the ground. I dig them up the first week in October.
One even made it through last winter...Colocasia 'Pink China'.

Yep, that was me. I love your place. That's a cool idea- I will have to read up on past posts on collecting pollen. That would be a neat cross.
Nice place Rox. Nice to sit outside with all the plants and drink a behr..lol ...I have some baby Pink China's. I have them inside right now. They look too delicate to put out at the moment. A hard rain would hurt them I think. I am even thinking the greenhouse be too much for them with the heat. I just got them and they had a tough trip I believe. I figure another week or two and they will be good to go grow outside. I hope they get a good enough of a root development by fall and maybe I could try wintering them over w/ mulch too.
I have this darn groundhog that keeps redigging his den near my house. I am almost tempted to plant one there just to cover it up and let him be. He likes my yard and not the fields for some reason. Even with my dog around.
