Just a few Begonias

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Took a few shots of begonias who look halfway decent. Pre hot, dry winds of July and August that cause crispy, brown edges.

This is B. 'Caribbean Queen' a leaf from a trade from a fellow Begonia enthusiast
(B. carolineifolia. back left and 'Iron Cross' back right)

An enormous Begonia 'Torsa' (compare the leaf to the sprinkler!) I'll measure it later and see how large it is.

A small, nearly black rhisomatous - Begonia 'Black Truffles'

An easy one to grow. Begonia 'Sisquoc'

Nifty edge on this compound leaf - Begonia 'Emma Dolan' (I think this is a Brad Thompson hybrid)

An oldie (1951) but a new one to me, this is Begonia 'Maphil'

Begonia 'Murray Morrison', a cross between B. listada and B. paranaensis (Kusler, 1975)

Begonia 'Lime Swirl' - I'm finally having some success with this one. I've killed several!

Begonia 'Fairy' a rex, which behaves less like a rex for me. It's not nearly as temperamental as some rexies.

Back from the grave is Begonia 'Shamus', it was big and beautiful last fall - then it took a nose dive and I thought I had lost it but it's coming back.
Perhaps I should put it in a bowl like yours Butch?

A nice mini rhizo, B. 'Precious Patti' (a Brad Thompson hybrid)

Begonia 'Magic Carpet' with is tell-tale signs of B. hispida cucullifera parentage (leaflets on the top of the leaf)
(that's Iron Cross in the back and B. partita in the front)

Nice double sinus curl on B. 'Cowardly Lion'

A Mike Kartuz hybrid, Begonia 'Cayuga' is an easy rhizomatous to grow. Another one brought back from the brink, I took so many cuttings that I didn't think it would bounce back.

A large growing rhizo, B. 'Bushmaster' - another Brad Thompson hybrid. (I think it's part of his snake series? Mike do you know?)

that's it for now...

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

I see someone has been very busy. Mine are starting to grow now that it's hotter than Hades. I have a sprinkler on them for 45 minutes 3 days a week and try to give them a shot of fertilizer on Saturdays. Half are in hot sun (up to about 2 PM) but at least the sunburn is long over.

Remember 'Mrs. Ludwig'? She is coming on strong now.
