HAVE: Hibiscus cannabinus/solanum ovigerum/blackberry lily

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

H. cannabinus is between 1-2 ft. tall now. i have tainung 2 and dowling varieties. mult. trades of each.

S.ovigerum is 3-4 in. tall. 2-3 plants per trade.

Blackberry lily.....orange........3-5 in. tall. prob. 6-8 plants per trade.

all of these plants were started from seeds this spring.

i am really wanting the bicolor butterfly bush but some of the time i am a realist so just make me an offer. lol. i also could use some fennel, any kind, as i have black swallowtail cats that need some food.

I am weeding some bronze fennel, too much came up this year.what is the best way to send it to your cats. Are you going to plant it ? Will it still be fresh enough from here? No trade needed.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

if you have never traded plants the best way i know to tell you is to go to the top of the plant trading forum. the very first entry gives a very good description on how to do it. kim even posted pictures. i don't use the peanuts. i use newspaper. the main thing to remember is to keep the roots moist while they travel and don't wrap the whole plant in plastic, just the roots. if you put the whole plant in plastic it gets too hot and can rot in the box. thank you for offering to send the fennel. they have nearly eaten every one of mine except for the stalks. and there was another mama out there flying around the other day so don't know what she left me with yet. how many do you have? if you don't want or need the above plants if you will tell me something that you like i will do my best to find something for you. and yes, i am going to plant it. and if you do the roots right the plants may be somewhat wilted when they get here but i will cut that foliage away and they will perk up pretty quick. before you send them you might soak them in water for an hour or so and i will do the same when they get here.

now i am going to send this and if i misunderstood you and you already know how to trade plants please forgive me. but if i leave now and go and check your feedback to see if you have traded before i will lose all of this and have to retype because i am a computer illiterate. thank you and please accept my apologies if you already knew all of this.

Your post was just the answer to my dilemma, my fennel went crazy this year and I cant bear to compost perfectly good plants.
Sent a box of fennel your way . My transplant rate has been only 50% so I sent several 20-30 plants of different sizes.
If you want to send something I love surprises ,and never met a plant I didn't like. I have a perennial garden, herb Garden veggi garden ,houseplants, and have learned to winter sow through DG. This is such a wonderful place to meet other gardeners.

tell me some colors you like? thank you for helping the butterflies. lol.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I had to give that question some thought and walked around the garden. I seems I like all colors ,most of them are bright. I tend to see my plants as individuals and plant them where they are happy.Almost no one sees the gardens so I don't plant for effect, more of a collector- caretaker. Cinda

Gus, if you ever have too much fennel again, I'd love to adopt some:-) I'm sure I could find something in my garden for a fellow 'collector'!

what is that yellow flower down on the bottom right? and what is that sweet pea looking flower top left?
something keeps killing my cats. i am going to pot this fennel and bring them all inside. i found one today that was dead. it looked like it had been attacked mid- body. the "waistline" of the cat looked like it had been pinched together or partly eaten. what is doing that?

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Sorry to here about your cats .I wish I knew more about them ,mostly I just plant the fennel in case they show up and they do their own thing. I have seen a fourm on hummingbird and butterfly gardening, and I'm sure they would know there. Some of them even have cages for the cats.
As for the flowers the yellow one is a daylily (stella-d-oro) and the pink one is a perennial sweet pea. It comes back every year along my fence line. Pretty but no smell like the annuals.

i did ask a long time ago and someone said it was wasps. at least that was what was happening with the monarchs. as many cats that have been killed from here i don't know how they even continue in their existence. i don't see the wasps so can't be for sure.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

no it was not wasps. it is a bug about the size of a ladybug but with a soft body. the bug is orange and black and where it touches the cat it seems to burn it because the area turns black and the caterpillar appears to shrivel at the site. i squished the orange bug with a mean spirited vengeance but i am still angry at this bug. i have to go see what he is.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Be sure and let us know what it is. I have never heard of a bug doing that but then I am not a bug person...LOL! If it is that poisonous that it makes what it touches shrivel up I for one am scared to meet it!

Edited to say that if it is not deadly I would like to put one on my hips!!! LOL
