My inlaws have a small area in their yard that has dollar weed. My husband has tried round up and two other weed killers on it without any success. FIL wants to get rid of the weed; he's been working on improving the grass in the yard. Would be best if dollar weed was gone. DH will be laying grass sod down on Saturday in the blank spots of the yard. Will the grass overtake the dollar weed???
Any suggestions on how to get rid of it before sod goes down would be appreciated.

How do I get rid of Dollar Weed?
i am trying to love dollar weed - because i am stuck with it! the tinyest piece will become HUGE in a minutes time. for real -- I know the is spray for grass - but have not idea what you can do about flowers. I have tried using a cotton ball with round up - but that does not seem to get to the roof - just the leaf. Pulling the stuff just seems to make it mad and grow faster. I do out every morning and pull the new growth.
so just learn to love it and think of pulling as excersize!
one other thing... i had my front yard resodded a couple of months ago.. first they brough in sod stripper for the old sod... and within a few weeks dollars weed was coming throught the new sod!
Weed be gone kills it off for me but if you have bare spots they will come back quickly.
Thanks for the input! My husband and FIL chopped some of it out and just laid new sod over the area. It will probably come back.

Just by chance, I happen to have an easy and inexpensive solution for dollar weed....Spread canadian spagnum peat moss as a top dressing -roughly 1/3 inch. An inexpensive "bale" will
cover roughly 1000 sq feet. As it breaks down, it affects the acid levels slightly and is enough
to rid the lawns of dollar weed plus the St Agustine loves it.
I haven't tried it but it sounds like an easy and enviornmentally sound solution. This was taken from this thread if you haven't seen it... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/706869/
Podster I just found that thread and read the entire thing. I didn't realize so many Texans are having the same dollar weed problem. My FIL doesn't have it so bad and I'm thinking maybe we need to try this peat moss dressing before it goes nuts.
Thanks so much!

I think the $weed explosion is being caused by the excess amount of water this year. The Arizona DGrs enjoy this plant in their ponds.
The peat moss solution appeals to me as it cannot hurt anything... Please post if successful? pod
