violet is changing

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Hi all,
one of my AV's is changing. It used to be white with pretty dark blueish-purple edging (picotee?). Now it has kind of a pinwheel color pattern. does this mean there is something wrong with it? This is one that I was going to send you leaves of Gail.

This one looks blue in this picture, but I swear it a royal purple - I kept working with my camera but it stubbornly 'saw' this AV as this blue.

Nothing "wrong" with it... it's beautiful... maybe it's going to sport to a chimera! Now that would be neat...

It's not your camea settings it's just the way colors are distorted by our computers & camera lighting.. Not much you can do...

Your pic is lovely.

On the pinwheel AV half of the plant has white blossoms with some edging color, and the rest of it is this pinwheel color.

Thanks for commenting Ms C. I still wish I could get the true color to reproduce.

Reds and blues don't seem to come true with cameras for some reason... But your pics still looked good.

Snowrose or Orchidlady might know more about your changing AV.. some just revert to other colors because they are unstable but you never know you could have a real chimera sport on your hands...

Depending on the type of photo program you may have on your computer, you could always edit the photo's colors to give you more of the purple color you want, and that matches the plant true.

I would offer an example, but I'm at work right now...

I used these two AV's to have my students write. First I had them write a description about each one individually. Then I had them compare them and write about their differences. Last I have an AV that is a sparkly maroon color, and they had to write about all three. Just so writing wouldn't be as much torture I also did that with soccer balls, baseballs and basketballs. I'm always bringing in things for them to write about. Now though, my two violets aren't 'opposites' anymore.

You need to contact SnowRose or someone who would know if that is a chimera......certainly looks like one in the first picture........they won't come true from leaves (which doesn't matter for me) but you may have something special that could be started from the crown and suckers,etc.............
