Heliotropes

Sterling, VA(Zone 6b)

I just heard of heliotropes. Any info on them would be helpful

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Buy plants not seed! Sniff for the best smell then buy it. The plants I started from seed are a disappointment.

Thanks. I will start looking at the different garden centers in my area.

ctindell, heliotrope has a warm vanilla-y floral scent. Very strong at night. You can look it up easily on PlantFiles for visual info. You know, you have a great place near you called DeBaggio Herbs. http://www.debaggioherbs.com/
They have three kinds of heliotrope, more scented geraniums than I knew existed, and very rare tomato and pepper plants. And tons more.

Yea...evil snicker..LOL For ALL of you in the Mid-Atlantic area...they're planning another plant swap...this one probably being more of a social event then swap given the time of the year. Come on over and join us!! http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/738803/

Heliotrope can be transient in the perfume department....you can sniff it up close and smell nothing -then off you go to some other part of the garden and you catch a river of "cherry pie with vanilla custard " smell....many perfumed plants do this....depending on temp/humidity/time of day...etc ...just a little patience and you will be rewarded I am sure:)
