Texas Star Red Hibiscus

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

In spite of continuous rain, my Star is blooming today. There are several more buds. Too bad the hibicus only blooms for a day. Don't know the proper name but I also have a double red blossom on another plant. Have forgotten what the sun looks like.

Oh too bad you have gotten so much rain. Melva over on the Rose Forum was telling us all how she too is so sick of the rain everyday in Denton. Here some people are getting rationing due to lack of rain.

Sounds like your hibiscus are so pretty, I wish I could see them. Some last for a bit longer. Kyle is trying to breed new ones that last for a few days. Wouldn't that be great!!

LouC,

It's still early in the season I would think. My Star just started blooming less than 2 weeks ago. It took all that time to get new growth from the winter frosts and we have been in drought until 2 weeks ago.

I am trying to recall, I believe mine bloomed through the entire summer last year.

I have never the seen the white. So hope yours is successful and you post a picture. Now how's that for looking into the future?

Danielsville, GA(Zone 7b)

Works for me!Those who have the white say, that they almost look like artificial flowers, and you are compelled to touch them, like they shine. Can't wait>

white star is strange this year...single stalk 2 in across 5 and 1/2 ft high..1 bloom, shudda called it Lone star......no other buds........if it doesn't have other blooms this year I plan on hacking it up into maybe 6 in sections and try to root them......it needs some branching too

Jackie, these don't seem to branch at all. Mine comes up fr the roots with new, long, like you said, 5-6' stalks.
I'm just going to plant more so they will have more roots to come up from. lol

jackie,

Hope you are not in harms way. Don't know if Texoma has breached the dam yet but it was very close this morning. Say it will cause more flooding in Red River.

East of here a bit, I am central, just up 35E toward oklahoma city first exit to the east across the red river .........but yes we have had way more than our share. The yards and driveways stand in water, grass growing tall and can't mow. It is beginning to smell sour.
